Gs sustsined eye injury some months ago.
Dr. found nothing wrong with eye.
Yesterday, eye was fine. He slept a couple of hours & woke up with outrageous pain.
He has a very high pain threshold, once went through molar root canal without anesthesia.
Please help?
Ty!
On edit: eye began to feel better aboit 3 hrs after he got out of bed. Call in to dr. No clue why this keeps happening. Ty all so much!

(129,271 posts)Does he wear contact lenses, or does he have dry eyes? I've had a corneal abrasion from contact lenses and it was extremely painful; also dry eyes can cause a lot of pain, or could be a flare-up from the old injury. Obviously he needs to see an ophthalmologist asap, hope he's OK soon!

(76,985 posts)Maybe muscles irritated from REM?
Although, dr. said muscles tested perfect. Slight astigmatism, so I got him glasses with Transition lenses.
I will call eye dr. again today.

(112,916 posts)(after appropriately numbing the eye with proparacaine)... It sounds like he has dry eye syndrome, so that does put him at special risk of surface corneal injury. Those who have ever worn HARD contact lenses have undoubtedly experienced that intense pain, and even though he doesn't, these surface injuries can occur for a lot of other reasons, including foreign bodies, styes, etc.
So, while it could certainly be something else, I would think that they would want to rule this out. Even ER docs would/should do the evaluation above for acute pain, no matter how much they want to refer to ophthalmologists.
Good luck!

Some are dodgy and they are easily contaminated.
Otherwise, nothing but sympathetic feelings going out.

(23,676 posts)They both contain only mineral oil and petrolatum to different percentages.
Check contents, anyway.
No chemicals otherwise. I use them every night to keep eyes moist.
And of course, all drops need to be kept sterile, even if that's not actually doable by humans.
HTH, even in a small way.
