"Cunk on Earth". Very funny new show on Netflix.

It's a British tongue in cheek history of civilization show. The hostess plays a total idiot, especially when she's interviewing scholars. And you don't have to be a history buff to appreciate it, but if you are, it's even funnier. The hostess is Diana Morgan, who was great in "After Life", the Ricky Gervais comedy series.

I can’t decide if it’s stupidly smart or smartly stupid. The writing and acting is top notch. You can almost believe the star is that dumb. And the reactions of the experts…

And how the historians didn't just crack up, is beyond me! I love the line about the ship the Titan I C. Brilliant stuff. Worth a rewatch.

It is hilarious. This may be the revised history that future generations will learn if Republicans get control of our educational systems.

Which leads to the comment that one cannot blow the entire orchestra.

So many funny one-liners throughout.

She plays an uneducated person who thinks she knows everything and tries to explain history. The experts either reinterpret her questions or look at her as if she's nuts.

I was constantly laughing out loud. You have to pay attention though she comes off with some quips that are just flatly stated as fact, they catch you off guard.

The quip about man bred dogs for companionship and cats because cats - or something like that - just had me laughing.

It was great. Don't forget to pump up the jam.

Did they know going into the interview if it was a spoof? Their reactions are so genuine and so varied (unique to each person) that I think not.

I like this part of the program because she is so earnest and comes across as so sincere. At times--and I really, really laugh at this part--she forms her own opinions and converses with the expert, as if she could hold her own with them. Her opinions are so dumb that the expert is at a loss as to how to respond.

I've watched so many of these type of British cultural programs and appreciate it from that standpoint, too.

This is one of the funniest programs I've seen in a long, long time.

Scholars are also teachers, and we teachers are acculturated to the idea that one never, ever treats a student or younger person like they’re stupid.

Another consideration is: how would the scholar think this is a spoof? It’s not like these types of programs are turned out so often that they could make that mental leap as to what was going on during the interview.

I think they told them later, like they used to in Candid Camera.

was they were told it's a comedy mockumentary, but were not told the content of the questions they were going to get. Some fight back smiles, but most play it bemusedly straight.

Personally I liked the line "...Earth, the planet we live on up until this very day."
