I just devoured Seasons 1 and 2 of "Downton Abbey"
within a few weeks.
I think if there were a category of "Period Costumed Soap Operas," I'd be happy.
(Before I started this series, I watched all of "The Grand." Yes, I admit it.)
I am going to start "Bleak House" next.
Anybody else captivated by these sorts of shows?

The Way We Live Now
North and South
The Bucanneers
and lots, lots more
Which Bleak House version? I've seen most of them, but the Gillian Anderson one is the best.
I have some of those in my queue!

(60,010 posts)that the set of the hotel lobby was almost identical to Duchess of Duke Street's hotel?
Esp. the floor.
and the location of the stairwell, and entrance door.
I always the The Grand was sort of a take off of Duchess series.

(47,419 posts)I just can't get enough of these British programs.
One I liked a lot was "Bramwell" - 3 seasons and fascinating.

(24,149 posts)They're like a guilty pleasure to me. (Stinky hates them.)
I'll have to watch Bramwell! I'm trying to get into "Bleak House" right now, but so far it hasn't grabbed me.

(47,419 posts)a couple of years ago. Though it was good, it was pretty depressing.
My daughter-in-law and I love the British dramas, but she couldn't get my son to watch them. She finally got him to watch Downton Abbey and he was hooked. I don't know if that means we can get him to watch any of the other shows, but after years of me trying to get him interested, it was a major victory!
I mentioned that to Stinky, but he insists he'd never watch it. (Maybe he suspects that he *might* like it, but doesn't want to like it.)
Anyway, I took your suggestion on Bramwell and now I'm into that one! Thanks!

(47,419 posts)Just wait, one of these days he's going to run across some guy who is hooked on the show, but I'm sure he'll never tell YOU.
I really like Bramwell and found the 19th century medicine fascinating, but sometimes a bit gruesome.

(24,149 posts)There are only TWO episodes in Season 4??
And Season 4 just wasn't quite the same.
I fell in love the series Kingdom because someone recommended it here and was "bummed" because the last episode was a cliffhanger, but they never made another season, sigh. How cruel.

(24,149 posts)The two episodes of Season 4 were not at all the same. And the ending was disappointing, too.
So now what to watch? I started "Lillie" but it's moving veeeerrrryyyy slowly.

I looked back at some of the ones I've watched the past year and here are few goodies if you haven't seen them yet:
North and South (NOT about the Civil War in the U.S.)
Wives and Daughters
Coming Home

Pretty soon, I'll be able to rewatch a lot of them, as I will have forgotten much of the storylines.

(47,419 posts)It was one of the best episodes of the series. Have to bite my tongue or I'll give away too much of the plot though.
