I keep hearing about the mental illness and creativity link. Since I'm an artist, it makes me rather curious on how many people can say the same.

I do a lot of kinds of art,draw,paint,sculpt,beads,metal casting,taxidermy,leather,photoshop,papercraft...

3. I'm a self-taught writer

I ran across the proper term for people like me today in a book that I'm reading: autodidact.

I don't have anything published, but I do have a manuscript sitting next to me that I'm working on.

I really don't know if there is a real correlation between mental illness and creativity, but I have heard that a lot of people who are very creative and successful have suffered or do suffer from a mental illness- anything from depression to schizophrenia.

I've heard it said that emotional turmoil and tension can often be a driving factor in the creation of art. If that is the case then people who suffer from mental illnesses have a lot more of that driving factor.

I guess I could post one of my stories in there. Or were you thinking of something more like a concerted or collaborative effort?

9. I was thinking more in terms of having a DU art gallery.

Every once and awhile, we post new art we've made in one thread.

There's a writer's group separate from the art group. I suspect they mean drawings/paintings/pottery/sculptures for the Artist's group.

Well, I'm a terrible artist when it comes to anything beyond writing. I have trouble drawing a recognizable stick figure.

If you all get something going to post there, be sure to post a link here so I, and anyone else who might be interested, will see it. I'll definitely comment on the thread and give you a kick.

Maybe you should start a new thread here to gather submissions.
