In the long run, to keep weight off, eat a nutritious diet and the body won't crave vast quantities of food to fill the empty-calorie gap.

If you need an app to eat or not eat, you are doing it wrong.

Intermittent fasting is easy and may have some usefulness. I do it naturally by eating when I am hungry, not when the clock says Eat! Get so involved in doing things that you lose track of time.

But an app won't help those problems. PM me if you would feel better speaking your mind. I'll give you a sympathetic ear. I may learn something. I'm sympathetic to people in whatever situation they find themselves, but many many "dieting" schemes don't address the fundamental issues.

For some, a few, an app might help short-term.

But long term weight loss does not happen quickly if it is going to be kept off. Weight maintenance (at a lowered desired weight) needs to become semi-automatic, but dramatic changes and harsh new year's resolutions are harder and rarely stick. Eating nutritious food needs to become routine even if it means bringing food to avoid getting sucked in by fast food on the job.

Yes, there are many dimensions to the issue of diet. Lifestyle (habit, tradition, surrounding circumstances) is often the most prominent dimension, but far from the only dimension and not always the most prominent.

Envision a healthy weight (defined your own way) and then the diet that would maintain that weight and good health. Start making small slow changes to arrive over time at exactly that diet. Small changes are easier, and making them gradually helps make them stick.

I try to eat only between about noon or 1 till 9. So long as I keep busy-ish in the morning, it's not a struggle. I enjoy the "empty" feeling. We've even hiked or biked empty and gone 12+ hours without eating. There's a kind of high - mental clarity - that sets in with the ketosis.

"Ketosis is part of the metabolic process of the body. It happens when the body does not have enough carbohydrates from food that help your cells burn up for energy. During ketosis, the body starts burning fat instead. The liver then creates ketones, which is a type of acid and enters the bloodstream. This fat is then used by the muscles and tissues to be used as fuel."

I attribute IF for my drop in glucose levels. I try to eat healthy - especially my 1st meal after breaking my fast. But there really are no restrictions to what or how much you eat during the "feeding window" to do IF. I just try to use good basic nutrition. 😲 I'm also not dogmatic about it - if I'm with company or whatever I'll eat with them that day.
