well, here's a twist for ya.

so just ordered my ancestry dna kit, which gets me back into my tree. and gets me docs, so i hope to get the passport in motion.
here's where it gets crazy. i've been taking voice lessons for 2 yrs now, and i have learned a whooooole lot of irish songs. a friend of mine from the hood, a rocker, posted on evilbook about irish music at the beach at the end of my street. he doesnt know the songs, but has been playing w them to keep his chops up.
so i went and checked them out. they swear they arent a band, but they've been doing this weekly for a couple decades. for tips.
i'd seen them at my local irish pub a while back at how quiet a room full of irish ppl could be. they had no singer. the did black velvet band. period.
all kinds of folks sit in. so i told them i'd be back the next time w a list. (it's every other week.)
and i did. despite showing up pretty unprepared, they walked me through, figured my keys, and fed me the line w a smile when i blanked.
they were so kind, and i'm now officially a singer in an irish band.
they all do gigs, esp the boss. i'm hoping after we get to know each other, i'll get invited on some gigs. and honestly, i could use the cash these days. i've already been invited to the next edition of a regular thing where they take over a commuter train, ride to the end of the line, and entertain both ways.
now here's where it gets fun. the boss has been to ireland to perform several times. he likes singing w me, so mebbe if something comes up i can worm my way in.

at any rate, i'll go home a singer in an irish band. how cool is that?

Before you hand over your DNA, do a little research (if you haven't already) Pobeka Aug 2022 #8
dna science is useless w/o a robust data base. i'm good w being a part of that. mopinko Aug 2022 #9

Grew up with a band that played all over Southern Maine in the 70's. Schooner Fare. They were awesome.

My area is highly mixed ethnically. A friend might be especially unusual.

I like watching ancestry reveals.

i had it done long ago. 93% irish, the rest is viking and neanderthal.
23/me. but ancestry's test points to individuals.
23 has a good mapping function. when they show you relatives, the tree shows the path.
i uploaded my file go myheritage, and found a few cousins, including an adoptee over there who i've become great friends w.

looking for a particular ancestor, but also clues to where exactly i came from. what i know now is that i have people from at least 3 counties. when i get there, i was to see the places they lived.

but my surname has some overlap with Germany. I believe it’s coincidental.

The genealogist of my family was a former sister-in-law. I don’t know who took up the mantle.

ty for 23me information.

a distant relative was instrumental in a well known corporation

another relative was a military officer that my father admired.

a lot of information is lost compared to other DU genealogy enthusiasts.
