Appetizer: goat cheese, chopped scallions, herbs, and olive oil over an Innes Rosale.
Chicken soup.
Baby arugula salad with avocade cubes; honey mustard dressing.
Seven-layer tortilla pie. Each tortilla was buttered, next a layer of egg (kind of like a crepe only thicker), and then a layer of vegetables/ground pork and beef with red sauce. This is a creative endeavor of the RG's, and it turned out to be quite delicious and very attractive. He made the recipe up in his head and then put it together.
Dessert: Vanilla Swiss almond ice cream for the RG, coffee and chocolate chip cookies (dunkers) for me.
As it snows, TJ is making a pot of chili. I believe there is one of her dried hot peppers in the pot. Watch out!
Corn bread too.

FLFC has been resting all day, but got up long enough to get some of the ground beef before it became chili. He's not very energetic lately.

(17,437 posts)After I posted he was stirring on the couch, so I picked him up. His butt was on my forearm and his head against my shoulder. He just lays back in the crook of my arm and relaxes. I took him out on the porch and we watched the snow fall for a few minutes. We looked to the right and to the left and saw none of the enemy birds. He enjoyed his "out" and then I set him on the couch. He gave me a "thanks dad" lick, then yawned and went back to sleep.

(32,974 posts)I added a bunch of veggies to this mornings breakfast, so I don't feel too bad about no green/orange veggies this am

I know it is a bit of a mishmash menu, but it is what I had a taste for on this cold snowy day.

(22,037 posts)In fact, I made it last night using, of all meats, left-over turkey which created a delicious stew. It was terrific.
My introduction to Indian cuisine was in the late 1970s in the Upper-Upper West Side of NYC. I was in college and my apartment was at Broadway and 124th Street, then known as Spanish Harlem. It was actually a fairly gentile neighborhood as long as you didn't have any visible wealth. I was a poor music student and I kind of fit into the neighborhood's bohemian/family groove. It was a wonderfully unique experience and I met some remarkable people.
One night, I was with a friend who was a French Horn player and he wanted to go out for Indian food. I tagged along and he took me to a hole-in-the-wall restaurant on 125th Street east of Amsterdam Avenue. The menu was amazing with dozens of dishes that I had never heard of. My friend took the initiative to bring an ice cold 6-pack of beer and he ordered a feast for us.
Muligatawny Soup
Papadum
Chicken Vindaloo
Aloo Paratha
Rice Pilau
Dahl
Raita
Pears
Ever since, I've loved this cuisine and never shy away from a new opportunity. I'm crazy about the spices and one of my favorites is cardamon which is a seed that has a spectacular flavor!

(47,053 posts)The items you mention are so good.
With the pandemic I am starting to cook my own Indian food.
It is not that hard, and the spices are so fun to work with.
Oh a turkey vindaloo sounds good.
I know, my introduction to Indian food was a hole in the wall, those are the best.

(5,657 posts)Over fettuccine. Rosemary artisan bread toasted.
Have some vanilla bean ice cream. Will have some of that with raspberry preserves and a bit of chocolate later.

(2,018 posts)Deciding right now whether to make a pasta arrabiata with sausage and peppers and onions, with garlic bread, or to go out in the cold and wet to get the makings for a classic beef burgundy. I'm thinking the pasta is going to be quicker and more fulfilling than running out in the nasty weather, even though the beef burgundy sounds amazing.

For tonight, here's the menu:

Homemade potato fries in Grandpa's (10-ton) iron pan

Sliced apple
