We got a new stove this morning

The stove in our mountain house has been giving us fits for some time. One burner doesn't light without using a lighter. If any juices fall inside the oven, all the smoke detectors go off. The broiler is particularly finicky. It's an old propane-fueled range that we got used more than 20 years ago for $40. We've gotten more than our money's worth.

The Landlady(!)'s birthday is next month so I offered to buy her a new stove and it was delivered this morning. She's very excited with her new toy! Each burner has a different gas jet so they each have a specific function. It's self-cleaning and has a convection option. There's a center burner with a skillet. Although it has some electronics, it's not too complicated. We got it in white enamel as the rest of our appliances and cabinets are white. It cost a lot more than $40 but it'll be worth it.

Now I've got to call the electrician about updating the smoke alarms.

My landlord (NO (!) ) got me one last year,;propane works fine. Prob: impossible to reach the broiler, as its UNDERNEATH the whole thing, so bye bye broiled things (but for toaster oven.)

She bought a property on Ocracoke Island in the Outer Banks of North Carolina and developed it into a wonderful beach-box rental that earns her a tidy annual income.

Then she bought the property in the Catskills. It had a one-room hunting cabin on it. Eventually, Courtney and her late husband built a small house on the side of the mountain. I’ve converted the cabin into my music studio. If you’re familiar with the MacDowell Colony, you’ll know what I mean.

Meanwhile, my petite wheeler-dealer has had the same rent-controlled NYC apartment since the late 1970s. Cheap!

Now you know why I call her the Landlady(!).

My 'landlord' really IS, found him and this riverside place from an ad.

His family bought the whole 6+ acres YEARS ago, my 'house,' now 'the cottage,' was a farm house, and after he + his wife had TRIPLETS!!! (23 years ago,) they realized they needed more room than this 2 bedrooms (with 1 bathroom,) so they had a large house MOVED to the property (about 1/4 mile from the cottage) and rented the cottage. LUCKY me!

Their other house is in TOWN, in DC, so they're usually here only weekends.
