We are expecting our first rain in over 40 days of beautiful sun here in the PNW. Fall is in the air and it's the beginning of soup season. I am making Soup. I already have the carcass simmering away with parsley fresh from the garden, onion, carrot salt and pepper. There's still a lot of meat on the bones so I'm expecting to make a very hearty bowl. So the question today is Rice, Noodles or potatoes.

The house is starting to smell...warm.

We are finally getting some really warm days down here off the SoCal coast. Water is finally warming up and the tourists are slowing down (:woohoo .

Now, to your soup. My favorite is just the richest broth I can make with egg noodles - nothing else. No veggies, no meat. I am sure it triggers some massively positive part of my memory bank from long ago.

I had been planning a special Sunday dinner centered on a menu of roasted organic chicken and a lot of trimmings but had to shelve that idea after the phone rang. I ended up making up a chicken-fried pork steak sandwich with a relish of yellow tomato, avocado, purple onion, served over Romaine leaves on buttered, toasted Bastogne loaf with sesame seeds. They work insane hours at his shop, so he slurped a cup of strong tea before he left. On the other hand, my local supermarket did have blackberry-cabernet sorbet when I went shopping this morning! I'm planning on consoling myself as much as I need.

in which case I will pull out some chicken for grilling and maybe use pinto's thread to do something new with potato salad.

Otherwise, I'm think grilled cheeses and salad.

Another beautiful day in paradise here.

that doesn't involve a trip to the store - which I seem to make almost every day! I think I'll just marinate a couple of chicken breasts in Italian dressing and throw them on the grill. I'll probably just accompany them with some steamed cauliflower sauteed in a bit of olive oil & garlic and maybe add a mixed greens salad with some nice maters I got at the stand. Pretty boring, but it should work.

Cooked most of the day.

Went to the farmers market in the morning. In the afternoon and evening, put up a lot of produce. Twin babies in the family are now eating real food, so I made a LOT of applesauce, pear sauce, and peach sauce and put it into small freezer bags, and into the freezer. Lots more pickles finished today -- unfortunately some of my cukes froze in the fridge drawer so I had to toss them. Two more apple pies made today. I never get tired of making apple pie. One for a neighbor, one for us.

I'm trying to think of an excellent snack for our family kindergartner who starts school tomorrow! It should be something stupendous and not sweet.

The weather cooperated so we did hot dogs over the open fire. They don't taste as good when I cook them in a frying pan in the house.
