Cooking & Baking
Related: About this forumHappy Thanksgiving everyone!
For the first time in several years, I am not cooking a big dinner today!
Bill is working tonight and tomorrow and I am going to spend a nice quiet day today puttering around and reading.
I hope you and yours have a wonderful day. ♥

(18,791 posts)Just 3 of us here today...opps, 4 if you include Ozwald the Super Hound (currently stretched across the couch on his back!)
We bought "dinner in a box" again (Ralphs grocery chain). We've done it several times...it's always been pretty good. But, like so much, they cut back what you get vs. what you pay! And yes, we could cook all from scratch but this is just plain easy...we'll add a few sides...I will say though, I dug out the Fancy-Eat'n-China and ran it in the dishwasher this AM...making it's about once per year appearance!
Best to all.

Hey Lucinda!
And BTW, the Dinner-in-a-Box was good.
Three things.
...we ended up having a Claim Jumper Pumpkin Pie (frozen). We decided that it was absolutely DEElicious! I don't like too much spice...more of a light cinnamon hint than heavy clove, nutmeg and / or ginger type person. VERY mild spice in the pie...loved it. They are expensive but it was on sale and had a coupon, getting it for around 4 bucks.
Second...I was (still am) going to make cranberry sauce from scratch (with a recipe from here) but partner bought a container...it was cranberry, pineapple and walnuts. OMG...so good! Ingredient label also said celery...which we knew something was in the taste background but couldn't figure it out, until we saw it on the label. It is actually a Kroger house brand, "wholesome @ home", Cranberry Celebration.
Lastly...partner also bought a prepackaged sweet potato kit (actually, he got it by mistake and paid too much, but...) Fresh chunked up sweet potato, mini marshmallows, dried cranberries, chopped nuts, some other package that I forget AND a small container of Maple Syrup. It was another OMG moment. That maple syrup with the sweet potatoes was wonderful. Gads, no wonder so many different cooking shows have had recipes where you added maple syrup. We are definitely going to try to replicate that flavor and recipe from scratch.
SO...it was a great day!

(31,170 posts)would microwave a small sweet potato - then add a little butter, pumpkin pie spice, and a touch of maple syrup when i wanted something sweet, but somewhat healthy. Takes about 8 minutes start to finnish. Sooo yummy.

(29,098 posts)Just six of us today. I got a small bird this year and did all the prep yesterday. Once the bird comes in all the sides go in the oven. Table is set and buffet counter is prepared. All that needs to be done is to peel the potatoes which SO does soooooo well. LOL!
Dinner is at 5....
