Strangest baking odyssey?

I suspect many of us make substitutions when baking to suit our preferences, but occasionally, some of the variations are truly... variant. My most extreme example of how-did-you-get-there-from-here was a chocolate chip cinnamon mocha snack cake with fudge frosting... starting from a pouch of sugar cookie mix. What's yours?

Snort. Okra is a treacherous vegetable, but I've never suspected it of being an energy source. n/t winter is coming Mar 2013 #4

The cake batter tasted funky and I couldn't envision it being a good cake. But it did have a little indian feel to it, so I improvised and used it like a shake and bake coating on some chicken instead.

My husband still harasses me about a different experiment gone wrong - what he refers to as the nuclear fission cookies. I tried hiding some okra in some oatmeal cookies, thinking it would be kind of like zucchini bread. But no, no it is not like zucchini at all. Something went horribly wrong. I took them out of the oven and they were warm. Then they cooled and I put them in a container on the counter. Then the next morning they were very warm again - like the kind of hand warmer hunters use, were you snap something inside a gel pack and it heats up all on its own. They just kept generating more and more heat.

If I knew exactly what that chemical reaction was, I'm pretty sure I could solve all sorts of renewable energy issues and maybe achieve world peace as a result.

You know how when you try to hide a shredded beet in a cookie, on day one it's odd but you can overlook the flavor a little, but then on day 2 the taste has gotten way stronger, like it's self-replicating?

Hmmm, it occurs to me now that maybe people don't know about that.

put vegetables into cookies. I don't think I'm going to start. I'll eat the hell out of them at dinner, but dessert is dessert.

I wonder if that slime stuff that comes out of the okra when cooked had some chemical reaction with something in the cookies. I'll bet Alton Brown would know. Or Bill Nye.

Years ago I made cinnamon yeast rolls and with left over dough I decided to make pizza. It was horrible; despite my telling the kids that they didn't really appreciate good pizza I don't think they ever forgave me.
