fancy dress up dinner report

dinner was absolutely lovely and i stuffed myself stupid.

started with pate, which was served with bread, spicy pickled veggies and face meltingly spicy mustard. the pate was so smooth and luxurious that i just wanted to slather myself with it. best part of the meal for me.

then came the french onion soup. rich with plenty of onions and oh so much gruyere. husband had tomato bisque and a shredded kale salad. that salad was simply awesome with radishes, corn, slivered almonds and bleu cheese.

i ordered the entree special, aged sirloin with baby carrots, hericot vert and potato gratin with a drunken been reduction. everything was perfectly cooked, the steak was so tender, the sauce was to die for. the only thing i didn't like was the breading on top of the gratin, there was way too much of it and it wasn't crispy enough. husband had steak frites and was in love with the way they spiced the meat.

then came creme brulee for me and a slab o' chocolate banana cake-like thing for him. silkiest creme brulee i have ever had.

three glasses of red wine and then coffee with irish cream with dessert.

the service was great and the atmosphere wasn't bad, but it was packed and all hard surfaces, so conversation was a bit difficult.

all in all, it was a successful night

now i'm just hoping my husband leaves my leftovers alone because i really want them.

to come to Boulder and have a lovely dinner and happy anniversary. Our Sprouts grocer and most of the restaurants are open but many people I know are still suffering and don't know when they can get back home or have their places restored. Also, I read yesterday that if the govt shuts down CO will receive no relief funds; Udall and Bennett did a great job yesterday on the Senate floor but the bill increasing the federal cap for roads and bridges repair has to go to the House. More reasons to get rid of those CO Repug Reps.
Hope to be able to get to Estes soon; we have to go to Golden, 6, and 72. Their businesses are really suffering and their insurance companies have been denying coverage.
