Rye bread, peanut butter, fig jam, sliced banana, dusted with cinnamon.
I get a rye locally with those small seeds in the loaf, dense and really tasty. Jam's a Bulgarian product marketed by ZerGut.

(4,238 posts)Mom and the aunts would make it all the time when in season. Everyone had a fig tree in their backyard. I couldn't stand the stuff when I was younger, now I yearn for it. Best way to have it: spread on warm lavash bread with some clotted cream God, my mouth just watered!

(4,238 posts)Basically heavy cream (sometimes mixed with a sweet cheese like mascarpone, or sour cream with sugar) that is whipped and then refrigerated. It's nice by itself, but what really makes it is mixing it with jam or honey on bread. Yum!

(14,890 posts)in my home While growing up. My mom purchased two kinds from a most fabulous local bakery, with caraway seeds (hated when young - LOVE now) and without.
Food brings out such fond memories. She'd have a standing order and pick up the bread while still warm. My siblings and I always wanted to be home right after pickup. Fresh rye bread with a little butter which would melt into the warm bread! Ahhhhhh . . . absolute heaven!
Zergut indeed!
