1. Portuguese restaurant, yay!

Hmmm, what shall I have tonight?

Picking up Resident Gourmand (henceforth known as RG) from airport at 4:20. The Portuguese restaurants are convenient from the airport, which is why we often pair them.

One thing I know will be on the check will be a pitcher of sangria.

I have a hard day's work to put in before I can enjoy this, however. That is why I am sitting here posting on DU.

with meatballs and hot italian sausage. With ziti tonight, topped with pecorino romano.

And the leftovers? Why...meatball grinders with sharp provolone, of course! (probably on Monday.)

The ONLY thing good about being layed off is that I can spend unlimited time in the kitchen.

6. I don't know yet

My father called me up and started telling me what he wanted for dinner and how I was going to cook it, and it pretty much leeched the joy out of doing so for me. He's an expert on everything, and I'm not about to be bullied. I'm a nice person but when you insult me when implying that I don't know what I'm doing in the kitchen and need your advice on a meal that I've made a million times just to make yourself seem important, you are on your own.

In any case, I don't like being taken for granted that I will make something that I know from the get go will be a disgusting mess just to satisfy his need to micromanage everybody because he thinks he's the ultimate "supervisor" and "expert" of everything big and small.

May just top those with cheese, cut up a small side salad and call it dinner.

12. Roast pork loin

I picked up a bone-in pork loin on sale for $.99 per lb. I cut it in half, froze one portion and brined the other half which is now in the oven roasting happily above a big sprig of fresh picked rosemary from one of my planters. Glazed carrots and a garden salad are the sides.

College football afternoon here, so I didn't want to spend much time in the kitchen. I used a can of Progresso's mushroom cooking sauce, and it was pretty good.

Some broccoli timbales, and brownies for those who can eat them.

I had one of the best seafood salads I've ever had. Good food and good friends make a great combo.
