Besides cereal it's a common snack for me. Morning, noon or night. Sometimes a meal, in and of itself.
What's your favorite PB & J medley?

(130,895 posts)I love it.
Recently, last month or so, only size I can find is HUGE one! Really don't want to buy it, cause I'll eat it all too quickly!!!

(5,946 posts)I like to take multigrain crackers and put Lime marmalade and cream cheese on them. Yum. And invention of necessity because there was nothing else treat like in the house

(106,886 posts)Obvious duh...it's lime marmalade. Just have never seen it for sale.
hollysmom
(5,946 posts)actually, it is key lime marmalade.
It was a shelf above the strawberry and grape jellies. they also had prickly pear jelly and a lot of stuff.

(10,170 posts)I am fond of fruit spreads with no added sugar. I find fruit sufficiently sweet.

(6,057 posts)tried it. It looks like peanut butter and tastes just like sunflower seeds.
It's actually pretty good, but I just keep expecting it to be peanut butter. lol

(24,368 posts)1st, toast the bread
Take one slice and using the knife you're going to spread the PB & J with, carefully cut just inside the crust, around the edge, through the outer layer or surface of the toast, just through that toasted outer layer so that you cut a square out. Gently go under this cut-out with the knife and separate it from the slice of bread. The middle of the slice is nice and warm and bread like, the other side is toasted but now you have created a well, if you will. The carrying capacity of the bread is now doubled.
Fill with preserves, spread PB on the other side, slap em' together and devour.
That little square you cut out? A tiny PB & J toast point.

(2,674 posts)Even when I was a kid, I liked my peanut butter plain. I eat plain peanut butter on whole wheat bread, add a dill pickle or some cherry tomatoes on the side, it's might tasty to me.

(9,265 posts)Like many people, peanut butter gives me...breaking wind. I have vivid memories of sitting in afternoon classes in junior high trying hard not to do that after a PB & J for lunch. IMO peanut butter is only good on celery or apples or in the occasional cookie.

(106,886 posts)Peanut butter, date jam and sliced banana.

(146,218 posts)I like smooth peanut butter and I like the kind that is just peanuts.
And grape jelly is still my favorite.
Extra added deliciousness? Honey and/or bananas.
And if I want to be extra decadent, I put some butter in there too.

(2,016 posts)I have the peanut allergy. I found out the hard way when I was 3 yrs old.
I tried sunflower butter once, and really didn't like it.

(146,218 posts)How about almond or cashew butters?
Galileo126
(2,016 posts)I'm also allergic to walnuts (again found out the hard way). So, there was a "no nuts" rule growing up. My parents figure better safe than sorry, and it was cheaper than a scratch test.
To be honest, I can't miss what I never had. However, when someone opens up a jar of peanut butter, I always make the same joke: 'Death never smelled so GOOD!' I really love the smell of peanut butter, but I do know that one would kill me.
Sick humor: if ever I am diagnosed with a terminal disease, I'm going to do three things I've never done all at the same time: shoot up a hot dose of heroine, eat a PB & J, and ride this biggest wave on the North Shore until it crashes on me. Hopefully, all 3 will kick in at the same time!

(146,218 posts)Trader Joes' has a variety of butters and I love them.
I guess I could live without peanut butter, but I sure would miss it!
You will most certainly die if you do all three of those things at once.
I'm not even sure what order I would recommend!

(2,016 posts)I'm scared of being in hospital, with wires up my cahzoo, spending $$$ just to die.
I'd rather give what little I have to my nephews...and die on my own terms.
(ps: I'm 48 and heathy. Just thinking ahead.)
I'm a proponent of "quality of life" vs. "number of years". Which is why I dig this forum (C & B), and think it's cool.
Eat-Pray -Love? Well, I'm good for 2 out of 3. If you get all 3, you are better than me.

One of my all time favorite late night treats!!
Toasted. With butter. Can be peanut or almond. Grape jelly is the preferred, but can be adjusted.
Must be accompanied with a large glass of ice cold milk.
(When I'm in a hurry, the peanut/almond butter can be spread on a six inch tortilla and rolled up to munch on)

I'm diabetic, so have to be careful, but load up on Bonne Maman preserves when they go on sale and practice steely self denial.
Favorite way, which makes it a bit worse, is on an English muffin. I rarely have English muffins around because of the temptation and high carb count of the damn things, but do allow myself a few at times. And instead of PB, I often use cream cheese or almond butter. Or some other nut butter hanging around.
And Nutella. Yeah, more sugars to worry about, but worth the sacrifice of other less worthy carbs.
Years ago I went to Germany and brought some Nutella back to the office. Real Nutella, with the palm oil and everything. Nobody heard of it back then, and nobody heard of the Belgian butter crackers to spread it on, either. Just put them on a table and watched the people glance as they walked by. Then, one person tried it and went into some sort of foodgasmic trance. Took maybe 5 minutes before it was all gone. Tried to get them to pay for another European trip and thought I had it for a minute.

(9,824 posts)spread on graham crackers and usually eat it with apples, pears, or other fruits. It is good on celery, too. I don't like it on bread or with jelly. I make killer Almond Butter Candy Buckeyes every year at Christmas, and folks swoon over them. There is also a few tbsp. of rum in the recipe, so that might be what people really like!
I have peanut allergy and, after having several severe reactions during childhood, get nauseous whenever I smell peanut butter. I am also allergic to lentils, chickpeas, English peas--all in the legume family.
My mother and brother were peanut butter fanatics and my brother always liked to make peanut butter and butter sandwiches, grilled in a cast iron skillet on the stove, the same way you make a grilled cheese. He and Mom never liked it with jelly. Mom liked hers on crackers.
Dad wasn't crazy about peanut butter because he had to eat so much it in C-rations and K-rations during & immediate after WWII in Germany and during Korean War, as well as those times when he was on maneuvers.
Interesting topic, pinto. Thanks for starting the thread.
I ordered some of this spread and it is divine. The recipe for Banana Coconut Almond Bread is moist, delicious and more like cake than bread.

(3,041 posts)I used to toast two slices of bread, then butter them each on BOTH SIDES, then put PB&J between them. It was extremely messy but very yummy.

(971 posts)That the split between grape jelly and strawberry preserves pretty much centered on the Mississippi River. East was grape, West was strawberry.
Just a weird factoid that's rattling around in the old noggin...
