(6,057 posts)Since I've inventoried and cleaned out my freezer, I'm getting scary skilled at meal planning.
Your sautéed sauerkraut..... Onions sautéed in butter, then add rinsed sauerkraut, a little brown sugar, a bit of apple juice, and a few caraway seeds and simmer?

(50,130 posts).....chunks of chicken simmered in butter with peas, pearl onions, diced celery and celery leaves, grated carrot, minced parsley, some poultry seasoning and onion powder, chicken bouillon, thickened with a bit of flour and cream. With biscuits. Dark gingerbread and whipped cream for dessert.
Comfort food!
that sounds heavenly on a cold, winter night.
The gingerbread and whipped cream...
rdharma's twist on the sauerkraut was the perfect touch, too.
What talented food envisioners we have here.

(9,791 posts)It's a good time for hearty soups around here. We're surrounded by 5 foot snow piles and got another couple of inches of the blasted white stuff overnight. I picked up a loaf of fresh Italian bread at a local bakery and that was dinner.

(8,646 posts)boiled baby potatoes, tomato salad w/basic and balsamic vinegar and a regular salad w/3 different homemade dressings. I'm experimenting on the homemade salad dressings. So far they are pretty good. I'd like to stop using bottled stuff.

It's highly motivational to read the ingredients on the bottled salad dressing labels.
Right now I have French and an Asian dressing made with ginger. Having done this for about a year now, I've gotten it down to about five kinds that I really like. I'm putting all the recipes in one file for quick access.
I've collected about 3 or 4 cookbooks exclusively on salads, so I look forward to continuing experimentation.
There's nothing I love more than a salad and tops are salads that come from my own garden!
