what's for dinner - saturday, july 12th

pork butt is about to go on the smoker here. rubbed it down last night with brown sugar, garlic powder and salt, paprika, chili powder and mustard powder and am smoking with a mix of apple and mesquite. i'll put together some tater salad and bbq sauce later. i'm also toying with the idea of a loaf of no-knead bread to go with it.

i'm excited to see how it turns out.

happy weekend

And delicious! I'm throwing out a quarter of the penne and Alfredo. It maybe years before I do that again. Cooking for one is a chore.

something i can lack at times but i have nothing else to do today, so i might as well do this dinner right

cooking for one can be a chore, i know. i ate a lot of sandwiches and cereal when i lived alone.

At my leisure. I don't like being under pressure to produce dinner every night. My friend has a 35 y/o son who still asks her what's for dinner every night. At least I have the option of just opting out and snacking.

I'm making enough to have quick leftovers for the soccer final tomorrow. It'll only be 9 AM my time, but I'm fine with a mid-morning left over dinner dish.

Also first time trying locally-raised pork spare ribs. And broccoli and cukes from the back yard.
I love when it's Market Day. The rest of the week it's spaghetti, rice and leftovers.

so it was something quick and easy. Sloppy joes and salad. Haven't had them a quite some time.

Mixed baked potato, fresh corn off the cob, and fresh cooked spinach.
Sprinkled cheese on top. Not bad.

Five more days in the 90s!

Tonight, shrimp salad, corn on the cob, cucumber salad, watermelon. Marionberries with cream for later.

Tomorrow, farmers market! My favorite day of the week. I'll be buying berries galore, some fresh basil, and whatever else strikes my fancy. Maybe nectarines.

boy is the romaine beautiful...so we're going to eat it before it gets eaten by other bugs (why oh why didn't I buy floating row covers).

Oh, and some leftovers from the restaurant we went to last night. Mostly pasta.

I've been under the weather. I fixed egg drop soup earlier. Made humus last night and tuna salad and will get a piece of toast and spread it with humus and tuna and munch down. My appetite started coming back last night.
