what's for dinner - sunday, august 10th

we're heading to dad's tonight so he can finally reattach the bumper i tore loose a few years back (yeah, i hit my other car ), so i'm making dinner as payment. we're going to do london broil on the grill, steamed asparagus and corn on the cob.

i picked up a pork tenderloin yesterday and i may toss that in the crock pot while we're gone so i don't have to cook for a couple of days.

1. I'm licking out the inside of the blender

RG made a cilantro, goat cheese, yogurt cream sauce which I think is for the burgers that are on the grill. This is sooooo good! Slurp, slurp.

He just came in from Whole Foods and I see two lobsters which he says are for me for dinner tonight. He doesn't eat lobster.

Right now on the grill, in addition to the burgers, are Italian sausages and zucchini.

He also made a salad.

And I see three bottles of wine, the larger bottles.

And yes, we have one other person coming over!

3. Marinated top round again, this time in BBQ sauce. Laid out in a real slow oven.

Salad w/ garlicky ranch dressing. Sliced pears w/ sharp cheese. And anything else that needs to get into a dish - it's clean out the fridge Sunday.

4. Giving thanks for perfect weather and a good rain

that produces delicious veggies. I'm having corn, yellow squash, eggplant, tomato, and a peach from a garden near Boulder. Tastes like a feast from my childhood victory garden.

6. NJCher, I envy your lobster

Today is my birthday and I would have liked to go out for a lobster dinner. But I'm off from one of my jobs in the summer, so August is usually somewhat lean for us. So my birthday dinner was crab linguine, a salad of local lettuce, tomatoes, and cucumbers, and a "boughten" lemon meringue pie. And a nice dry Chardonnay.

The dinner with all the produce sounds really good too. I love having all the fresh stuff in late summer.

8. It's so hot here

I don't want to cook anything!

I think I'll make a nice crisp salad and maybe have some cheese and fruit. It's just too damn hot to eat anything heavy!

9. An eggplant curry thing over rice

it's a little bit of a clean the fridge meal, I had one eggplant left, some tomato sauce from the previous bike ride of smashed tomatoes, leftover pork shoulder bits I just scraped off the bone (probably not allowed in a curry, but whatever), and other odds and ends.

10. Going vegie tonight, mostly out of the garden.

I baked French bread this morning and am having a big sandwich with sauteed zucchini, red onions and red peppers with tomato slices and pesto mayonnaise. I don't have any mushrooms but I like those on there to.
Dessert is Rocky Road Ice cream with additional toasted almonds and some choc chips cause I like it really rocky.

12. Was at my niece's to celebrate a couple of family birthdays.

Barbecued ribs, chicken, salad, roasted potatoes and carrots. Apple pie and chocolate eclair cake for dessert.
