What's for Dinner, Thurs., Aug. 21, 2014

Something easy, like a salad, as I am preparing for Saturday's surprise party for the Resident Gourmand. I'm also thinking meatloaf sandwiches.

1. We went visiting and had a rather poor meal.

I am so friggin' critical! But I just don't like to eat bad food.

So we stopped for bread on the way home and made great salami/gorgonzola sandwiches.

Tomorrow will be my first go at potato gnocchi.

2. More short ribs, today with noodles.

I finally got some decent tomatoes and will have one of those.

3. Skillet baked cod with with a cucumber salad relish.

Red chard with sauteed onions, black beans, blistered cherry tomatoes drizzled with balsamic syrup. Very crispy thinly sliced potatoes lightly spiced with smoked paprika.

4. My housemate is doing grilled pork chops and fried potatoes

I'm adding grape tomatoes and Talenti raspberry gelato.

6. we are big fans of Talenti here

I think we've tried every flavor but one or two!

I don't like anyone else's mint chocolate chip ice cream, but Talenti's is unique. I can't wait 'til they have sale so I can buy 3 or 4 flavors.

5. lazy food.

boiled potatoes, smashed down and covered with slices of white cheddar, then briefly baked. The potatoes were getting old and needed used before they wound up getting pitched.

7. stopped at the pizza place on the way home

it's as close to ny pizza i can get here. i had a slice of white pizza with sun-dried tomatoes, spinach and feta and the husband had a meatball sub. washed it down with a couple of beers. tasty dinner.
