Nothing special, I just picked up some hot dogs, and we'll have maybe macaroni salad with them.

We hit one of the nearby orchards today, though, and picked up several small bags of apples, maybe a couple of dozen apples total, so we'll be doing a lot of apple-based food over the next couple of weeks. (The apples off my own trees were too buggy for my housemate's taste. Next year I'm going to have to bag up the apples I want to keep pristine, so the bugs can't get at them while they grow.)

Still no sign of anything from the saffron crocus bulbs, the shoots I saw turned out to be more random grass seed blown into the soil, sigh. I've got the garlic beds mostly prepped though, and we're getting cool nights, so I'll be planting next year's garlic very soon. We might do a fire in the chimenia out on the back patio tonight, watch some stars and some sparks.

Oh and the GoFundMe link I shared in an OP in the Pets group - https://www.gofundme.com/ky3aqfe8
has some good news. They've scheduled the surgeries, even though they haven't finished raising all the cash they'll need, so presumably the vet they're working with is amenable to a payment plan while the collect the rest of the cash they need. (Note that this is NOT one of my dogs, just one I contributed to.)

with (classic) potato salad, and succotash (which I haven't had since I left New England 30 yrs ago).

Something different was in order today.

I like to keep it simple: Butter beans (baby limas), corn and roasted red peppers. Rather than use butter, I made a simple garlic vinaigrette to make it a cold "salad".

The original Plimoth way to make it was with corned beef, chicken, potatoes, turnips, salt pork etc.

My CT grandmother and mother just used fresh corn, shell beans (cranberry preferred), cream, and butter. Maybe a little bit of diced salt pork.

I like simple, too. I want that corn, corn, corn flavor.

....browned and then simmered with browned shallots, lemon, tarragon and EVOO. Served with some baby new potatoes dug last night (said the farmer at the market), and alongside a gratin of chard, sweet corn, sweet red peppers, and Trader Joe's exceptional cheddar.

Love the bounty at the farmers market right now. My freezer is full of good stuff!

Red potatoes w/scallions, cabbage sauteed with leeks, cumin, garam masala, green beans, tomato salad, apple cake. The North Georgia apples we got on Friday are big and delicious. We got honeycrisps, johnagold, and mutzu.
