That was some damn garlic in my mussels.

I actually ordered mussels a few days ago, and they were overcooked. How the hell can you overcook mussels?

Anyway, had dinner with a friend tonight - not at the other place - at a much better restaurant (they know their shit - actually I'll give them a shout out - http://www.900degrees.com/ ). It was on the menu as Mussels Fra Diavolo, but it wasn't spicy at all. Instead (I got white sauce) it had sooooo much garlic in it that I'm still dealing with it now, hours later. I love garlic, but it can be counter=productive at times and there's no easy way out of it. I didn't kiss my wife. At least I was that considerate

You've reminded me of a restaurant which, unfortunately, is no longer in business, to which I took my folks YEARS ago, and Dad and I had their WONDERFUL mussels! Perfecto!

and was always presenting me with a bag of them that had been scraped of some piece of marine equipment. His best experience with them was at a Chinese restaurant. I didn't taste them or I'd have duplicated the recipe, he didn't want to share, but there's an alternative out there to Fra Diavolo, white sauce, and too much garlic.

This looks close to what he was served: http://www.foodnetwork.com/recipes/food-network-kitchens/asian-style-mussels-recipe.html

We used to go up to Maine and get lobster right off the wharf. One of my brothers would eat the green stuff (eww - still can't) and the other loved mussels. Myself, I just wanted the lobster.

Finally somewhere around 30 I lived near a seafood restaurant and got to love oysters, and from then it was a short hop to mussels. Actually, because I have digestive problems now, I like them because I can get a good meal with sauce and yet it's enough work that I can get through dinner without having eaten a lot. But yes, I do finally like them after decades of not.

Same with tomatoes

It did smell good enough to tempt a non mussel fan (me) and looked just as good, the opened shells in a light sauce and sprinkled with goodies. It beats the hell out of a heavy sauce if you've got stomach problems.

after this meal I think I would have needed two heads of parsley.

The stuff (garlic) just gets into your skin pores and doesn't get out. Similar with curry, though I don't get my hands on that as much.
