It got blustery cold here in the northeast today, ending our nice week of Indian summer. One day it was in the 80s and I think Newark may have reached 94. But that's all over now, so time to cook up so good cold-weather food. Here are the things I'm working on in my kitchen this afternoon:
--tomato sauce with cabernet
--caramelized onions to go with chicken sausages that are in the slow cooker
--tossed salad with ruffly green lettuce, nasturtium leaves, and malabar spinach leaves from the garden. Also raw vegetables.
--cilantro turmeric sauce
--roasted tomatoes
If I'm not exhausted from all that, then I plan on making caramelized pear chocolate chip loaf cake for desserts. It's a Paleo dessert, and I'm making it with pecan flour. Most likely that will be made tomorrow, though.
For dinner tonight, it will be meatballs and spaghetti with the tomato sauce, plus salad.
From early in the morning until around 3, I was busy covering plants or bringing them indoors. We are only supposed to have three days of cold, and then a return to more normal temperatures, so it's well worth the effort to save all my herbs and many of my flowers.

And beer.
(I'll save my cooking for tomorrow. It's too close to beer-thirty. No knives, please.)
ps: Cher is the busy little beaver today in the kitchen!
