What's for Dinner, New Years Eve, Mon., 12/31/18

Chinese spareribs, inspired by one of our posters on this thread. When I saw the recipe, I said, "I'm going that for Christmas or New Year's!" I've already had some and they turned out very good.

Chinese sesame noodles.

Stir fry baby bok choy.

Chinese dumplings.

Awaiting guests and the RG now. He is coming back from 2 weeks in Italy and Switzerland. He was enthusiastic about my gathering when I told him in an email.

The slightly soft crunch of the bok choy and the softness of the mushrooms are a good counterpoint

Thanks to NJCher for this delicious daily thread!

The Landlady(!) is making lobster bisque with the leftover lobster meat from the other night.

We picked up a dozen Blue Point oysters. We love them raw. I'll make a spicy cocktail sauce with horseradish. We have at least 5 or 6 oyster knives; of course, they're all in New York City. I'm going to try shucking them with a flat-head screwdriver.

I'm making a salad with Romaine, sliced tomatoes, red onion, minced green pepper, thin slices of carrot with some walnuts on top. Our usual Balsamic vinaigrette for a drizzled dressing. We bought a loaf of sesame bread at a local bakery to go with the meal.

There's a bunch of asparagus in the fridge but I'm not sure we want that much food. It's easy to cook so we'll decide later.

There's still some egg nog and brandy left so we'll sip that before bedtime. We're alone so I doubt we'll stay up till midnight!

See you all in the New Year.

Also gin and tonics. I'm staying with my sister, whose husband died five years ago. He loved gin and tonic, and today is his birthday. So we'll be toasting his memory.

Pigs in blankets, deviled eggs, spiralized French fries, and remember the Knorr spinach dip in a bread bowl from the '70s? with veggies and toasted bread. Now I just have to make sure Hubby doesn't realize it's spinach lol!
Oh and I made a sugar-free Key lime cheesecake!
Happy New Year!

The steak will be finished with a little butter and rosemary. Salad with champagne vinegar and oil for New Years eve. Some bread or rolls A champagne cocktail made with a tablespoon of pure maple syrup muddled with orange bitters. Fill the glass with ice, champagne and stir. Add a tiny bit of fresh grated orange rind on the top of the cocktail if you have it.

and having some roasted broccoli on the side. The kids are out so we are keeping things simple. I'll be lucky to stay up for champagne at midnight. Your drink sounds interesting.

I had a long nap this afternoon and TJ will be leaving for work in an hour.

I'm going to start with a slice of ham and mac-n-cheese. Lots of other things to nosh on in the refrigerator. Cookies and banana bread too!

I do see several strong egg nogs and perhaps an Irish coffee in the near future as well.

FLFC has been up and had mixed meats to eat, but is sleeping it off.

we have hot wings in process, you-bake pizza, vegs and dip, crackers and herbed cream cheese spread, then later we have flautas, coktel de camarones, avocado on the side plus tortilla chips

there are other chips, pretzels, chocolate, dates, nuts around too

we have fancy sodas, beer, champagne and there is booze (rum, vodka, tequila, bourbon) if anybody really wants to get carried away - and I may have a mojito with my two surviving homegrown limes. unfortunately the mint got eaten by beetles so I had to BUY some at Safeway. sigh

hope that is enough, there are only three of us in the house tonight.

I had a clementine for dessert.
