Can you purchase Vane' Vanilla in the US?

My granddaughter brought back a big bottle of Vane" Vanilla from Mexico a couple of years back and it is almost gone. It is pure vanilla extract and has the most wonderful taste and smell, like no other vanilla I have sued in all my years of baking.

I looked in my local Mexican supermarkets and they only carry the cheap bands. Also looked on line, didn't find a place to purchase. Does anyone know if Vane' is sold online or anywhere in the US.

I am out!

Thanks in advance for any info you have on this brand of vanilla.

has to go to at least 3 different Mexican supermarkets to get items she uses. Might try a few more.

By Robert Preidt Nov. 1 — Oct 31, 2008 2:02 PM

FRIDAY, Oct. 31 (HealthDay News) -- So-called Mexican "vanilla" is often made with a toxic substance called coumarin and shouldn't be bought by consumers, the U.S. Food and Drug Administration warned this week.

Coumarin is related to warfarin, which is found in some blood thinners. Eating foods with coumarin may be dangerous for people taking blood thinners, because the combination could increase their risk of bleeding.

Mexican vanilla -- which may smell and taste like real vanilla and is cheaper than the real thing -- is sold in Mexico and other Latin American countries and has started appearing in some U.S. stores and restaurants, the FDA said.

Pure vanilla is made with the extract of beans from the vanilla plant. Mexican vanilla is frequently made with the extract of beans from the tonka tree, an entirely different plant that belongs to the pea family. Tonka bean extract contains coumarin. Since 1954, coumarin has been banned from all food products sold in the United States.

Consumers should be cautious when buying vanilla in Mexico and other Latin American countries, the FDA advised. Look for "vanilla bean" on the label's ingredient list. Don't buy the product if it says "tonka bean" or has a vague ingredient list or no list.

More information

Florida State University has more about coumarin.

It is made with vanilla beans and smells like no other vanilla, smells so good your want to dab it behind your ears. I'm going to keep looking. There is a song about Vane vanilla, so other folks like it too.

McCormicks or Watkins.

Like fake cheese. Remember Velveeta in the huge package? Now $7.99. but it is great for Mac and Cheese.

I was excited to get a bottle of “real” Mexican vanilla bought at some cruise port. It was labeled as real vanilla, but smelled obviously artificial. I dumped it down the sink.

One of the oldest brands here in the US. I could not find Vane on Google but there are a lot of Mexican brands. Watkins $5.98 for a 2 oz bottle.

I do not know of anyplace to buy Vane Vanilla (which does not have Coumarin) but I do know that it is good because the beans are from Mexico... I make my own vanilla... I buy beans and soak in bourbon (or grain alcohol) for weeks-months... this might be the best way to duplicate the stuff you like... or try another brand of vanilla that is made from the Mexican beans
