Homemade potato salad, sammich on brioche roll (probably roast beef, topped with relish), and dessert will be lemon bar gelato with a tea biscuit.
Was I ever mad when I went to my herb garden and found something had eaten every bit of parsley. Yes! Bitten off and the stems all sticking up with no leaves. Grrrr. I wanted that parsley for my potato salad.
Maybe I have a backup at the community garden.

(1,707 posts)roast asparagus, and tiramisu for dessert. My birthday supper - there's maybe two restaurants (in a metro area of 170,000 - !) that I consider good enough to be worth the money for a celebration meal, so I'm cooking it myself. That way I know the quality of the ingredients and the prep!
I'm also bringing treats to church tomorrow. Turtle brownies, regular brownies, and coconut macaroons for the gluten-intolerant congregant. The custard for the tiramisu only used egg yolks, so I used the whites and some coconut I've been needing to use for the macaroons.

(22,056 posts)Your observation about the scarcity of good restaurants is something I've thought about often. The explosion of chain restaurants around the country has diminished the number of privately owned and operated eateries where one could find unique cooking and dining experiences rather than cookie-cutter commonalities.
On a recent visit to eastern Maryland, our restaurant choices were Olive Garden, TGIFridays, Applebees, Ruby Tuesdays and the like. Ugh.
I'm sure your dinner was delicious, that your fellow parishioners will enjoy the treats and that you'll have many more birthdays to come.
