It will be my LAZIEST T-Day ever and I am excited for it

Ladies and Gentlemen, I am having a pajama jammie jammie jam for Thanksgiving.

Tomorrow I will run my mother's errands (she wants to make only a turkey breast because we are social distancing) and all of the sides, etc...

But *I* have already gotten EVERYTHING I need by being lazy AF...I bought it all.

I am making a turkey (smallest one they had was 12 lbs, and that's a pretty small bird) brine is cooling now for it's plunge tomorrow. I am making real mashed potatoes, Grandmom's stuffing and gravy from the turkey drippings (but I have back up that I bought just in case drippings gravy doesn't work out) Oh, and I have some saur kraut that I have to open and put in a saucepan with some caraway seed and/or fennel and some ostrowski's sausage. SO easy

I went to Honey Baked ham and bought green bean casserole, sweet potato casserole and some kind of broccoli

I have individual tiramisu's individual pumpkin parfaits and a chocolate fudge cake (ice cream if wanted).

My two besties live alone (separately) and they have an open invite (but they always do, like for life) and were told that we are hanging in jammies at my place, and I have an offer to porch side deliver for anyone else who may not have wanted to mess with it all, or who may not have the time or the means...

But that will be porchside no contact at all.

I am excited. I have never done this much semi-home made before. Ever. I am even using cranberry sauce from a can, and i usually make it from scratch.

Not this year...

and while I will fix some side dishes, they will be exceedingly simple and in small portions. I actually look forward more to having leftover turkey to make my favorite Sonoma Turkey Salad (usually made with chicken, but turkey works) that I will have for wraps the following several days.

Here's to simple and safe this year.

but I *like* the whole house warm that happens when you're making the turkey, and I have to have real mashers, etc...

& asked for a couple of super thick, Butterball Italian turkey slices, nuked sweet potatoes & made vinegar cole slaw.

It was great.

Easy peasy.

Especially the sour kraut. I like to add chopped peeled apples in too.

I learned a long time ago when I used to cook a family (27 people) feast for Christmas Eve and I would work for days! And I would be absolutely destroyed exhausted by the time people showed up.

So then I got smart and realized that people wanted to be together - not necessarily have a full-on gourmet feast. I would ask people to bring sides and I would get a Honey Baked Ham. Put out a bunch of different kinds of mustards to be festive. Baked pies the day before. Easy peasy dinner. And a not-exhausted Mama. Win-Win!

Happy Thanksgiving Baltimike! Jammies and all.

I bought a tiny ham to munch on this week and i might set that out too.

I only have two of their sauces, but I might go back and get their apples and cinnamon (YUM) and some more sauces

Against CDC advise we will be traveling. 9 hours Wednesday and 9 back on Saturday. Family member is in ill health and we just have to go.

I’m planning on having a pretty lazy Christmas though.

usually we go to relatives or have family in. This year Son and Grandaughter will be here as they are around all the time. Maybe my daughter will come with her B/F. NO Turkey. Son will make lasagna (yummm) I may do a salad.
The smallest was the year my mother died and husband and I were on the road to Florida. We had dinner at Cracker Barrel.

Mr. Retrograde and I started going together the Saturday after Thanksgiving in 1970: we always did our big dinner in commemoration (and because when we were both working it was a lot easier than trying to do anything on Thursday). We're doing turkey and a few side dishes this year - and expect to have a lot of leftovers - but I wanted a big party!

14. Friendsgiving Feast for four for us this year.

Two of the friends with whom we always spend Thanksgiving are in our very tiny bubble. Steve is doing his first turkey this year after watching me do it for several years. He is also making mashed potatoes and is in charge of wine. He also has the big house with all the air purifiers and windows to open and allow air circulation, so we’re eating there. I’m making shrimp cocktail, dressing, green bean casserole, gravy, and cranberry sauce. Li will bring deviled eggs, rolls, and pecan pie. Plans are to Zoom with three other couples who are usually with us but have not been in our bubble.

It will be one hell of a party when we are all together again next year.
