Just used Form a Funnel to change oil in my Mower

Had Mrs. Best get this for me this past Christmas for use on the cars. However, I needed to get the lawn mowers ready for the season and this includes changing the oil on the riding mower. In the past, this has ordinarily been a greasy, nasty chore that I did not look forward to doing because of the mess.

Not this time! With the large general purpose Form-a-Funnel, I drained the oil from the riding mower's drain port right into my catch pan, no drips, no pools of oil on the mower deck or the garage floor to clean up. Final clean up was really easy, and the used oil and filter from the mowers will be headed to the local recycle collection center later this week.

NOTE: I do not work for this company or Amazon, so I do not get a cent if you decide to get this for you home. I'm just a guy who like to spread the word on tools that work for home or auto maintenance.

1. I use an extension tube that screws in where the oil fill dipstick screws and tilt the push mower.

.

They're on Amazon for B&S and other mower engines. If you have a rider mower, there are quick train tubes too.

I have Honda engine equipment and I use a solid aluminum tube that's about 5 inches long.
I use it for my Troy-Bilt Self-Propelled mower, Honda generator and Honda pressure washer.

2. Great idea!!! Yep, that can be a real mess. On my tractor it's right out where I can get to it.

On my mower it's a mess, right in about the center of the mower deck, so I set the mower over the top of a trash can lid. Yep, a mess.

I had to buy an oil drain tube for the engine and thread it in last year. The mower is a John Deere, which has one of those "quick change" oil filters that claims you don't have to change the oil. Truth on this is by changing just the filter, you're only replacing about a 1/2 quart of oil. The engine's oil capacity is 2 quarts.

When I changed it last year and added the drain tube, I ended up cleaning the mower with engine degreaser because of how much oil was dumped over the frame and mower deck. Once the mower is out of warranty, I'm retrofitting the oil filter adapter to take a standard oil filter as the "quick change" filter runs about $50 each.

6. The worst is having to replace a 'mandril' ie: blade axle spool / hub! What a friggin' @#$%!

But we've got acres and acres of grasses with the tops of granite boulders sticking up, and downed branches for which we sort out the bigger oness but the small ones get hit by the blades.

Had to retire the early Craftsman to a smoother property and get a taller decked Husqvarna Kohler V-Twin.

I sometimes call it the 'mower, rock grinder, wood chipper'.

Good luck.
