Because when I grew them, they were my favorite, not only in terms of taste but in looks.

Maybe the person who grew them didn't use enough compost or perhaps some other element that plays a part in taste was not present.

The pictures are wonderful to look at. Thank you so much for posting this follow up. Your techniques have opened up a whole new world of growing for me. I have a pic for you on that one, because after you posted about that earlier this year, I put all kinds of tomatoes, eggplants, and peppers in containers and put them on the hot asphalt of our driveway. Yes, they do seem to love it. I did this too late, though, as none of them have had a chance to bear. They do have flowers.

But now I know for next year, and it isn't for naught: the eggplant is a beautiful plant, what with its leaf shape and it's pretty purple flowers.
