A trial is expected to begin today for the woman charged with animal cruelty in the "Patrick the Dog" case.
Kisha Curtis, 29, is accused of tying her pit bull Patrick to a railing in her Newark apartment before leaving the state in 2011. The emaciated dog was later found at the bottom of a trash chute.
Curtis has denied all the charges and rejected a plea offer.
Patrick has since made a full recovery. The case sparked a call for tougher laws against mistreatment of pets.

If she is found guilty I hope her days in jail are the worst of her life.

I am fully in favor of vigilantism in cases like this. I'll not change that opinion. I think pet abuse stories have sutured my formerly bleeding liberal heart where humans are concerned.
