Rescue animals, now siblings, meet for the first time

My sister's friend in Maine adopted the horse in the picture from the Humane Society. I don't know the horse's story.

Here is what my sister wrote to me about the pig:

Valentine was abandoned at about 12 weeks old when her owners moved and left her behind. Neighbors came to her aid after a blizzard and she ended up at the humane society. There were a number of folks interested in adopting her to raise her for meat. So, the staff there contacted Jill because they knew she would keep her as a pet....and the rest is history! Jill got her on Valentine's day, hence the name. I think Val is just about 1 year old now.

Her story makes me very happy. If only more people cared about the welfare of animals!

What a wonderful story. I'm so glad this woman wanted to take the pig on the basis that she wanted her to live and live with love, so Valentine will have a forever home with Jill, Valentine's new horse buddy and other creatures she likely has. I just love that first picture with the horse and the pig greeting each other.

Bless your sister's friend for rescuing this cute piggy and giving her a home, wonderful care and loads of love.

I am so happy for Val and the horse (I must find out his name), and I'm thankful for dear Jill and others like her who help animals.

My sister takes in unwanted animals too (the local veterinarian tells her about them), and she has four donkeys, a lame horse, an orphaned wild pig and some poor old worn-out sheep with skin problems that she medicates them for - oh, and a few feral cats that she took in.

I think the picture of Valentine and the horse is really beautiful.

Here's a picture of my sister and two of her donkeys.

is filled with an entire mountain of love.

Thanks so much for sharing this one. It's such a fabulous photo that seems to say everything that words can't really express about the bond of love between people and animals.

The first reminds me of Charlotte's Web even though I don't think a horse was involved. Just the way the horse seems to be whispering something to the piggy.

It is almost like a fairy tale. Or Babe.

You sister is a wonderful person to take in such hard-to-place animals.

problem. I had a pet pig as a kid. Sow had rolled on her and crushed her hip. She limped and couldn't be bred and my gentle dad let us keep her for about 4 years. She weighed over 530 pounds when we finally had to give her up.

to let you keep her for as long as you possibly could.

I didn't know that pigs gained weight easily, but come to think of it, I haven't seen pictures of many "thin" ones.
