Lots of links lately about pets in house fires, one in GD right now that did not have a happy ending.
Wanted to pass along something that my fire department offers that everyone should look into, and if your fire department doesn't offer it, make your own!!!
I was provided stickers for all of my doors that say:
Dear fire department, please save my pets:
_______ Dogs
_______ Cats
_______ Other ________________________
You put the number of pets of in the blanks so if something ever happens and you are not home, or dog forbid unconscious, they know to look for your pets. Reminds me of the stickers I had in my bedroom window that notified the FD that there was a child in that room.
Please pass along to everyone you know who loves and has non-human family.

(18,219 posts)I did make my own, but I wonder if my fire department has something that is easier to stick on the doors. I know that it affects me just as much to hear of pets perishing in a fire as to hear of human deaths.

(6,011 posts)I'm looking forward to the day when we have a dog again.
I did check the smoke detector- usually when I change the clock in spring and fall, I get a yardstick and push the tester button. It didn't beep, so I'm going to change the battery...thanks for the roundabout reminder!

(1,136 posts)And I can't wait for the day when you can get a dog, too. They bring so much happiness and fun to our lives.
Last year I forgot to check mine at time change and then the dreaded beeping started in the middle of the night. Was driving my dogs nuts so I had to go out at 2:00 a.m. to the 24 hour pharmacy and get batteries. The things we do for our fur babies
