Related: About this forumI have a question for this group. Have you ever known a cat to like avocados?
My kitty, Boogie, likes to lick the insides of avocado shells after I've scooped the flesh out of them. He will also lick the surface of a piece of cut avocado if he can. He doesn't take bites of it, only licks it, so it's not like he's eating very much. I've googled it and some sites say that it's generally not harmful to cats and dogs, but it does contain a toxin, persin, that is deadly to some birds and other animals, depending on the part of the fruit that is ingested.
Does anyone have any experience with this?

(9,831 posts)bell peppers. She passed on many years ago. Two of my current kitties were fosters that turned into permanent members of the cat family--both are half-wild and they might have been former strays or ferals. Both are crazy about cornbread and they beg every time I make it. Their current mainstay diet is high-protein and I'm wondering if they might be missing something from their former lives. I have a friend who has a siamese cat rescue and one of her boys is addicted to cantaloupe, green beans and ice water.

(17,276 posts)Maybe it is the fat that they crave? Mine will try to lick a measuring cup that I've used to measure oil in.

I think she was attracted to the fat/oil content.
Bettina lived to the age of 19, so I guess it wasn't too bad for her.
