We have lost two of our little pygmy goats, and the miniature donkey in the past month. Just sick about it. Did bring home a Nigerian Dwarf nanny today because the one remaining pygmy was crying all the time.

(22,149 posts)I had no clue. My little bunny-earred girl was 10 yrs. old (got her at one yr.), the black nanny goat with the overbite was 12 (her daughter is the white one), and the little spotted boy was 2. The only one left was the white one. So I had all of these guys since they were babies, and never dealt with anything like this. Moved them across country from CA, back to KY. They had all been vaccinated, but my vet says botulism spores are endemic in the soil in this part of KY, and when you get a bunch of rain like we've had lately, they can bubble to the top. The spores can live for a hundred years in the soil. Now the goats and the horses have all been vaccinated for botulism this week. Major guilt trip to go with the sorrow.

(22,149 posts)I did run across an older lady yesterday that is wanting to rehome her miniature donkeys, and I think I'm going to take them. Its a jenny, her 5 mo. old baby, and the jack. She's probably pregnant again. Will really have to work on taming the baby boy, but the parents are quite sweet. Will post pics.
