Old lady Bailee update:

My sweet girl is doing pretty good! Spring has sprung and we have been doing more walking now more than ever!

Her main issue is constipation. I just had to have yet another vet visit because I assumed she was having an anal gland issue once again but it turned out to be just constipation.

She gets no raw hide or chews just because of her age and digestion issues. She's an old lady.

I'm thinking this is going to be an on going issue. Any advice on constipation? I've tried the pureed pumpkin and she hates it!

My vet is a low cost facility mainly for rescues. They charge very little but not so much service.

1. Google for lots of fiber rich foods suitable for dogs.

Lots of water is also very important. Years ago one of my dogs had surgery and the vet suggested cooked green beans, carrots, sweet potatoes, smashed up with chicken broth to a soupy consistency. I fed that mixture separate from the prescription kibble diet and she always ate it all. I also gave her cultured buttermilk and plain yogurt with active bacteria which are good for their digestive system.

Every dog is different, so try out different foods until you find what she likes.

Any kind of fruit or veggie that you can get her to eat. My daughter gives her furkids pumpkin mixed with their food and they love it that way. Also search Amazon for natural laxatives for dogs and you'll find a variety of things. Read the reviews to see what sounds best for Bailee.

Organ meats are good for dogs and my pup liked it a lot. And there are other vegs that are fine for dogs, mine likes broccoli, though I give it to him cooked.

And if you're feeding kibble, switch to a high quality canned and see if that helps.

Her vet said to mix 1/4tsp Miralax in her wet food once a day. Seems to have helped her a lot. It isn't a drug forcing her to go but it loosens her poop making it easier for her to pass.

constipation. It also helped to give her chopped up cooked green beans mixed in with her food.

their regular canned and kibble. Be sure you're using 100% pure pumpkin and not the pie mix.

Started using it for added fiber for diabetic dog. All of mine loved it.

Some of the herbal remedies for various things that humans take can also be given to dogs, but not all. But you might find lots of other info.
