she plays? I wear gardening gloves but that isn't enough.

(3,044 posts)AND let your cat know she can't scratch you by walking away every time your cat does. Don't allow your cat to scratch because some day your cat may scratch someone that doesn't have gloves on and really hurt them.

(9,696 posts)then I go very quietly and gently, clipping the visible nails first.
I can usually get 3 of 4 paws with this method.
Outsmarting cats is so satisfying!

The technical name for the long cuffs are GAUNTLETS.

Mine are called Lincoln Electrical Gloves. I found them at my local Lowe's Hardware Store.

(16,296 posts)Hold the cat above a clean toilet. Drop the cat into it-quickly shut the lid and sit on it. Flush 2-3 times. Wait a few minutes. Quickly step away. A clean cat will come shooting out and will give you a new respect.
Of course, I would never try this.

(15,805 posts)Do it when she's in your lap and relaxed. Play with her toes to get her used to touching her feet before you start trimming. Don't use force to hold your cat down, better to trim one claw and come back later for another. Her claws will be blunt once trimmed and no more scratches.
I use large toenail clippers and cutting both front feet takes maybe 20 seconds.

So like the unfixed male he had been for the first two years of his life he responded. My dad loves cats. He weighed 250 pounds and had oven mitts. Monster spent the night in the basement.

I can reach down into a pot of boiling water if necessary (of course I can't keep it down there for longer than it takes to upright a glass jar that has turned sideways.) They are very heavy duty and last forever. I've never had a cat claw or tooth penetrate them.
The vet techs at my local spay/neuter clinic use welders gloves (someone posted above) to handle their ferals.
