Golden Retriever saved a lost baby koala's life

Last edited Sun Jan 12, 2020, 10:10 PM - Edit history (1)

Location: Strathdownie, Victoria.

It would have died if it was left alone': Golden retriever named Asha is hailed a hero after she saves a lost baby koala that snuggled into her coat when it was abandoned on a freezing night.

..the lost koala had likely become separated from its mother during the night and snuck into the back porch to cuddle up to Asha as temperatures plummeted to 5C.

Ms McKinnon said the helpless joey 'never would have made it through the night' if it hadn't stumbled upon the retriever.
'I think dogs have that protective instinct. The koala didn't want to leave Asha's back,' the mother-of-three added.

'When we took the koala off to wrap it in a blanket, it hissed at me and carried on.'

The little marsupial is doing well after being checked out by a vet, and is now being looked after by a koala carer before being released into the wild.

And Asha looks unfazed. Glad the little guy is safe.

5 degrees? Isn't it summer in Australia right now (hence the fires?)

First, A big WHOOPS on my part for not looking at the date: Sept. 2018

I found the article and so WRONGLY assumed it was recent.

Also: 5 degrees celsius =
41 degrees fahrenheit, not exactly freezing but cold enough to hurt a baby koala. 🐨

And Australia has had many fires over the last few yrs but none that has gotten a vast as these 2019 - 2020 fires. Why it's taken so many yrs for them to realize that their conservative PM is a monster man, like TRump, who's horrible for the environment, I can't imagine. Sad.

Thanks, Bayard.
