Related: About this forumI can home from the vets to a shocking discovery
My beautiful Sophie died while I was taking care of Morgan. She was 14, had lost weight, but her appetite seemed to be back and her stress groomed fur was starting to return. What happened, I'll never know, but she was in the den, and had obviously been dead for hours.
I'm in such deep shock and so heartbroken, it's hard for me to type much more. However, life goes on. Madoc is jumping all over me, right now, so happy to see me. And I got to give Morgan a goodnight kiss and scritch before leaving the hospital.
Somehow I doubt I'll sleep, tonight, but I'll keep little Madoc by my side.

(6,085 posts)We are dealing with a 17 yr old orange tabby in decline and it's hard everyday to know we can lose her at any time. But it looks like Sophie chose the time to leave, when you were not there. She is at the Rainbow Bridge, love her heart. I hope your little one recovers and comes home healthy and happy. We do what we can for them but in the end, they know when to leave us. Hugs.

Be good to yourself. She had a great life with you and she loved you. Hold onto that.

(24,284 posts)I'm more of a dog person than a cat person. I may not respond much in your threads but I read them all and feel like I know you and all your fur babies. I'm tearing up typing this. I will snuggle a little closer to my puppies tonight, that's for sure.
My sincere condolences.

(16,949 posts)The kitties pick their times to go on to their 10th life. You gave them good lives and it was a mercy they didn't linger in sickness. It is hard on you, and I hope your little Madoc gives you comfort.

(3,121 posts)I am truly sorry for your great loss. Of the several heartbreaks we've had with the loss of a beautiful soul, the one I can't get out of my mind is when I held him as he was being euthanized and I saw and felt his life leave. It is never easy. Be strong. She is at peace.

(12,650 posts)A difficult decision and a shock like this returning home is heartbreaking and almost too hard to hear for anyone with a heart. And there's nothing more you could have done for either Morgan or Sophie, no matter how much you loved them and they loved you.
Take care of yourself. And take all the time you need to grieve. Your human family and Madoc will understand.

(6,172 posts)Even when you have time to prepare for it, it's painful.
Pets are like children that never grow up.
We give them our love, and they give us theirs. Both are enriched by the years we have together.
Live does indeed go on, and time lessens the pain and the good times will eventually far outweigh the bad.

(10,662 posts)I am so sorry.
The vet I saw last night told me cats have an amazing talent for hiding the fact they are ill. And, if she had been diagnosed with something, how much was I willing to have her endure medically.
She has 14 great years. The sad thing was my brother and I were talking about her during the drive home, commenting on how great it was she had accepted the kittens.
I'm still having trouble processing this whole situation. It just seems fate decided to deal a very cruel hand.

(17,086 posts)I've enjoyed your posts this last year. They helped a lot as I coped with the loss of my own dog and then a cat. A new puppy is now in the house, and a kitten is on order. All the best to you!
