Thanks for posting this photo, Siwsan. I think it eases all of our hearts.

(65,340 posts)When one of my two adult cats died of old age in 2005, I couldn't hear to leave the house, because I t dnt want the other one to be alone. A CD end got me an 8-month-old kitteh to be her companion. Then, exactly one month later, another friend brought me a feral kitten to adopt, so I ended up with three cats. Some years later, an 18-month-old feral attached himself to me, so I had 4 cats, but then my oldest had a catastrophic stroke last November, so now I am down to three again.
But when your heart feels a bit less shredded, you might want to adopt a kitten as a companion for sweet Madoc.

(26,262 posts)I just have to catch my breath and get centered, again. This whole two days have knocked the air out of my spirit.
I'm just so tired of dealing with death. In the past 6 years, I've lost 8 human family members and 3 feline family members. Add the little feral kittens I've been feeding, Tuxie and Spooky Jr, and it's been a rough, rough patch.

(65,340 posts)one unexpectedly finds its way to me, almost as though my previous cat has sent them to me for comfort. The same thing always happens to my sister.
It has soothed me to imagine that my deceased cat has sent another to me.

(35,667 posts)about this woman who happened to like rats and had lots of rats over her lifetime as pets. Now, everyone, I know, I know. Don't cringe. But anyway, rats have a relatively short lifespan, so she had a lot of them die on her. There was one she was really attached to and I wish I could remember his name but I can't.
Pursuant to your point "It has soothed me to imagine that my deceased cat has sent another to me," the rat she liked so much and who had come back to her several times, i.e. reincarnated in a new rat body, decided he wasn't going to come back for a while. Instead, he took "a job" on the other side, matching up hoomans and pets. Some of them were hoomans and pets who hadn't finished their time together. Others were just good matches for whatever reason.
Now, I figure if there's a rat over there doing that job, why couldn't there be a cat?

(23,977 posts)I've had many cats come and go over my 7 decades, and I am one of those who almost always needs to add a new cat sooner rather than later. I never think of them or refer to them as replacements, because, of course, they can't be. Rather, I call them successors.
The feeling I have about this is that the love I've had for a departed cat is still there, but sort of floating free with no one to attach to. It helps for the love to have somewhere to settle - at least for me.
Holding you in my thoughts.

(31,019 posts)I am especially grateful to have him tonight. Considering he once disappeared for seven weeks. Now he never leaves the yard.He will be facing his 12th winter outside. He comes in just far enough to lay on the carpet and purr and roll around but when I shut the door he freaks. I have to shut the door though because my indoor cat will make a run for it. The indoor cat I have now actually found me and started living on my porch soon after my old cat passed away. Your kitten is so sweet looking.

(8,914 posts)Since she roams the neighborhood I named her Romi.
She came to the house a couple of Tuesdays ago looking a lot thinner.
I told all my neighbors to let me know if they come across a litter.
The neighbors across the street had their little daughter come tell me they found the litter when watering their garden.
Found 3 newborns 5 days old, screaming their heads off.
I placed them in a box with a blanket and brought them home.
Their eyes were still shut, they were wet and cold.
About 30 minutes later mom shows up, and I surprised her
with her litter. I showed her, the kittens, she jumped in the box
sniffed them, then started licking them dry.
Today they are 19 days old.
Here is a video from today, as they learn to play.

(8,914 posts)when she was looking thin & frail.
She was skittish at first, but after about 2 weeks of feeding her breakfast, she started warming up to me.
I had seen her coming from the area where the litter was found, but I hadn't put 2&2 together until the litter was found.
Romi now stays indoors with me nursing her babies.
She very protective of them.
I took them all to the vet to make sure they are all healthy.
I got to see their eyes start to open, then learn to walk.
That was the first video I got where they are all starting to play.

(8,914 posts)I'm keeping the 3rd one.
The kitten in the lower left is the smallest. Her name is Petite.
She is extremely fiesty, as you can see in the video, jumping on the largest kitten.
The one laying down at the top of the screen, is Pepe because
he has skunk stripes down his back, so I named him after Pepe LePew.
Pepe is the largest cat. Both Petite and Pepe are spoken for.
The third in the lower right is Puffy, because the kitten is the puffiest (if there is such a word).
My brothers and sisters want me to rename Puffy.
I'm keeping Puffy so that Romi doesn't feel completely lonely when Petite and Pepe leave.

(35,667 posts)his little smudgy nose.
Cats don't like it when you do this, but I can't help myself. I love to run my forefinger on the furry part of the nose and I say, "I love your little velveteen nose."

(86,600 posts)He was probably with Sophie when she passed so that may affect him and now that his sister is not there too, he's got to have some confusion. You are the one person left in his little world right now. SO that gives the two of you a special bond that nobody else has right now. You will comfort each other and that is a good thing, to have each other.

(16,394 posts)I'm so glad you and he have each other to give comfort to and receive it from.
This has got to be stupendously hard right now, but somehow I believe you'll come through this okay in the long run and go on to love and be loved by many more cats. In the meantime, Madoc will be by your side, helping you along.
