Behold the magnificence of Mr. Cat:

Isn't he splendid?

Does this look like the coat of a hungry stray (I've already fed him four times today)?

He's not at all afraid to eat bits of chicken right from my fingers.

He's just lovely. I need to be thinking of a better name for him, since one way or another he will probably be hanging around - now that I also have a heated shelter for him.

considering the enormous amount of food he ingests at my house, I don't know how he'd have room for much more. He does hunt, though. He barfed up some mouse guts along with a hairball the other day, on his comfy porch chair, which is the only upholstered surface available to him.

As T. S. Elliot said:

The Naming of Cats is a difficult matter,
It isn’t just one of your holiday games;
You may think at first I’m as mad as a hatter
When I tell you, a cat must have THREE DIFFERENT NAMES.
First of all, there’s the name that the family use daily,
Such as Peter, Augustus, Alonzo, or James,
Such as Victor or Jonathan, George or Bill Bailey—
All of them sensible everyday names.
There are fancier names if you think they sound sweeter,
Some for the gentlemen, some for the dames:
Such as Plato, Admetus, Electra, Demeter—
But all of them sensible everyday names,
But I tell you, a cat needs a name that’s particular,
A name that’s peculiar, and more dignified,
Else how can he keep up his tail perpendicular,
Or spread out his whiskers, or cherish his pride?
Of names of this kind, I can give you a quorum,
Such as Munkustrap, Quaxo, or Coricopat,
Such as Bombalurina, or else Jellylorum—
Names that never belong to more than one cat.
But above and beyond there’s still one name left over,
And that is the name that you never will guess;
The name that no human research can discover—
But THE CAT HIMSELF KNOWS, and will never confess.
When you notice a cat in profound meditation,
The reason, I tell you, is always the same:
His mind is engaged in a rapt contemplation
Of the thought, of the thought, of the thought of his name:
His ineffable effable
Effanineffable
Deep and inscrutable singular name.

I have 6 semi-feral cats that live on my property, all ridiculously pampered.

One of them is actually fat! He is very tame, I can pick him up, and even put him in a carrier and take him to the vet. He's 10 years old now and has lived in my back yard since he was a kitten.

The rest of his colony mates have varying degrees of trust in me. Most will let me touch them, except for one male. He clearly isn't afraid of me, but if I attempt to touch him, he hisses. This guy has lived on my property since 2012. I guess this little stinker and I will never be friends, but he gladly accepts the gourmet meals twice a day, the heated beds in the garage, and the iced water I give the cats twice a day during the summer.

Did I mention that they're pampered?

who went off exploring our semi-country neighborhood every day. A neighbor who lived not too far away, came to talk to me one day and told me this cat visited her all the time, coming in through the doggie door to get fed and petted. She never knew the cat had a forever family just down the road!

I know mine a shut-in by looking in her windows - she likes his visits. The weight gain must be the result of a con job on someone else though.
