Litter pans, cleaning & the choice of litter, update on the daily doo

Original post-https://www.democraticunderground.com/116159057

Today is the big day for dump all the litter, wash out & let the pan sit in the sun for a bit.
It is 43, so not really warm, but very sunny, which is good for my mood.
Last month, I was out of the regular litter my 2 girlz use & knowing I could get next delivery thru EvilLordBezos shop, I ordered 2 jugs of Cats Pride Litter, A 10#jugs =20 equivalent to my usual Kroger house brand Love some.

Dixie liked it more then her sister Shaw, based on the visuals & daily scooping. HOWEVER, when during the scooping the Pee Biscuit-AKA the urine ball- was very smelly when accidently broken during scoop duty. The stool pieces were no more smelly then usual.

Today, during my standard wash out routine, I noticed that there was A LOT of pitting in the plastic pan, way more then the other pan. Urine burn?

All of this to say, some litters show different actions in real life usage & I would not spend my $ on Cats Pride Litter again.

...and it goes right in the bag before it fills up. This happens automatically. The litter is always clean.

I use Cats Pride that’s unscented w/ baking soda. I keep it on my back lanai n changed it all out once every 4-6 weeks but every morning n evening, I scoop. I went to Target n bought a large plastic container that could be used to store sweaters, etc. and it’s big n very easy to clean. Can’t afford the self cleaning ones but wish I had invented em

It works well. Pellets of used newspapers. Less irritating to Kitty Girl's paw pads.

The 44 pound package (four individual bags) goes for right around $20 at Sam's Club.

Fortunately, they get along pretty well so they can share a litter box.

Many of the rescue groups I work with use the same thing. We scoop out the wet sawdust and dump it in a pile in the woods behind our house. The solid waste goes into a plastic grocery bag and is disposed of in our garbage bin. For the little foster kittens, I use World's Best Cat Litter which is made from corn. It is great stuff and doesn't hold the stink like some other litters I've tried. I wish I could afford to use it for all my cats.
