Related: About this forumI managed to give both of the boys a pill, and live to report it!!!
No scratches, no blood, no muss, no fuss. Just hid them in a soft cat treat. I had to be a little trickier with Madoc, but Gryff gobbled it right down.
Now any remaining fleas they might be carrying have 30 minutes left to write up their wills.

(22,767 posts)Haven't had to do that since we tried Lena on the thyroid meds. We both had to work together to do it, husband holding her and me getting it down her. He made me a little clear rubber tube with a small plastic plunger on it, which made it somewhat easier.

(22,174 posts)eat the treat and spit out the pill! Too smart for their own good. Ha ha heh.

(21,633 posts)thoroughly into one reason of canned food of their favorite flavor. Just one teaspoon to be sure they eat it all. Then they can have a little more. If it's a capsule, open it and put the powder into the food and mix it.
That's the only thing that works with my feline lady.

(115,875 posts)Trying to get a pill into the late great Milo (which I had to do daily for awhile because of his thyroid problem) was like WWF wrestling. Cats are astonishingly strong and agile, but you know that already. Milo did. not. like. pills, and I tried everything. Pill Pockets worked for awhile but then he decided he didn't like them; maybe he figured out what they contained. Mashing up the pills and putting them in his food seemed to be the best solution, finally.

(3,919 posts)wave of hatching fleas, than the third quarter the next week after. Its never enough to make them feel sick and get an aversion. I just went through a huge flea storm because my oldest cat is in very bad health and I was afraid to poison him. He got only one quarter, but that was enough. I let him sleep with me and I found tons of dead and dying fleas in my bed the next two days. What a burden he was carrying!
The 5 year old girls got the 3/4. I also did a lot of vacuuming, spraying sleeping areas with Vets Best (not toxic to humans and cats, clove and peppermint oils, they have kitten wipes too), and used a sticky roller on smooth sleeping areas.
If I see scratching, Ill unleash the next round of quarter pills.

(22,975 posts)I always have trouble with my cat taking medicine. The vet just opens her mouth, throws the pill in, holds her mouth shut with one hand and massages her throat until she swallows the pill. He can make it look so easy.

(9,275 posts)And it still takes 2 of us to get Andy in it and give him a pill. The pill was a mild tranquilizer so he could have his checkup at the vet without killing her. Hes a sweet boy at home but totally freaks out at the vet.

(21,633 posts)So they prescribed a pill. But I found that generous spraying of a towel in her carrier with Felliway works better than the pill. Also, I let her go hungry before the appointment and then distract her with treats during the exam.
She's a real challenge to outwit and leaves me feeling brilliant when I succeed and mentally deficient when I don't.

(12,480 posts)I prepare it like a half hour ahead I put a little bit of oil on the pill like from tuna or sardine. Than its ready to go.easy reach.
I act like all is normal
Then when Othello's on the table, the couch I walk to him suddenly fast.I surround him put my arm around his back side surround him with my body pushing ot against him and as fast as possible grab his face and open his mouth really fast and put the oily pill deep in his mouth..twords his throat on the back of his tounge,
hold his muzzle shut than before he realizes it I rub his throat as I step away fast and he swallows it because its oily.
Than I let go fast and walk away fast looking away from him like Im busy in the kitchen.
He acts a bit confused but he seems to not realize what just happened.
This has to be quick, sudden and almost mechanical there has to be a confidence that its going to happen regardless of what he thinks and do like a they tell a hesitant apprentice tattooist to do, dont think about it just stick it in.
