Cat question

Those of you who read in the DU Lounge may know that my sixteen-year-old cat went blind suddenly. After a couple of weeks, she regained her sight gradually. The vet can find nothing wrong with her. Her blood tests are all normal.

Today, she was behaving strangely. She stood up suddenly and stared into space for a long time. She seemed disoriented. After I called, "Kitty, kitty" a few times, she acted startled and came to sit in my lap.

Has anyone had a cat who behaved like this? Has she had a stroke? Is it simply old age?

It could be a stroke, or possibly a type of seizure. Curmudgeoness Mar 2013 #4

I had a wonderful 18 year old who would stare at the wall for literally hours and then act normally again. I think he was watching the kitteh TV which we can't see.......

that was my first thought when you mentioned
temporary blindness, and then the disorientation...
maybe special mushrooms?

I have not had this occur with any of my cats, but seizures don't have to be falling down and drooling type of actions.

You have done about all you can do. If the vet can find nothing wrong and blood test is normal, you are lucky. You may want to keep a log of what happens, when, and how long it lasts, then talk to the vet to see if that sheds any light on problems. Has your cat's blood pressure been checked? Sudden blindness, possible stroke, could be related to high blood pressure?

You just love on your baby as much as you can.
