Related: About this forumI just made the appointment with my vet, Jake is going to cross the bridge this afternoon.
I've had him for 17 years, since he was about 6 weeks old when I rescued him and his two brothers where someone dumped them out in the country. They had mange, fire ant bites, fleas and worms.
He cries every time he tries to get to his feet even with the meds for his arthritis so it's time.
This was him in his prime
This was him and his brother Rusty right after I rescued them
He's the last of the old pack that Donna and I had accumulated.

(11,914 posts)Sounds like he had a wonderful life with your family. I know how hard it is, even though you know it's time.

(13,466 posts)How sad it's time for him to leave, yet how wonderful you had 17 years together. Thoughts for both of you.

(28,466 posts)It will be such a relief for him to escape his pain, and I know you take comfort in knowing he'll be with reunited with his pack. How lovely you were able to share this life with Jake for 17 years. But my heart is with you and Donna until you, too, can rejoin the pack - hopefully many years hence.

(18,219 posts)At 17 years old, with his crying from the pain, you know you are doing the right thing.
And you were so good to take them in when some asshole dumped them. I know you will miss him.
RIP, Jake.
