I expect a lie to follow. It's one of my least favorite phrases.

She suggests exchanging "I think" with equally boring and trite phrases like "I'm not going to lie" and "In all honesty". None of those are necessary, just get to the point.

Just say, "Trump is the most corrupt President in history".

3. "I'm not going to lie" makes no sense.

I think many people would assume that any statement that follows is almost certainly a lie.

It's up there with "some people say".
