http://www.knoxnews.com/news/2012/jan/13/kcso-shot-in-butt-during-break-in-suspect-dumped/?partner=popular[div class='excerpt']KNOXVILLE A Curtis Road homeowner shot and seriously wounded a burglar early this afternoon, according to the Knox County Sheriff's Office.
The burglar was hit twice with a 12-gauge shotgun.
Suspect Christopher Wayne Reno's wounds, which include an injury to the buttocks area, "appear to be serious," KCSO Chief Deputy Eddie Biggs said.
Despite those wounds, the burglar ran out of the house and was driven away in a car driven by a companion who then abandoned him outside the McDonald's Restaurant on Millertown Pike.
Insert your own Forrest Gump joke..

(54,770 posts)You want guts flowing out in the street. The victim in this case defended himself. But that is not enough for you.

(754 posts)Most experts in defensive use of firearms recommend firing until the attacker is rendered incapacitated; running (in any direction) does not indicate incapacitation.

(54,770 posts)Heck, you don't get many chances to use the objects of your affection against a human very often -- so you want to make sure you take advantage of the opportunity.
You guys have a problem. Anyone really interested in self-defense -- and not something else -- is content with thwarting an attack.

Life is too valuable to risk it with substandard SD ammunition.

(54,770 posts)You are not Jesus, judge, jury and exectutioner, no matter how much you think your weapons give you that right/power.
I hope the guy with the shotgun in this case doesn't listen to the callous gun owners here who think the perp should have been executed. He protected himself, stopped the robbery, the police caught the perp.
That's how it is supposed to work. Not with some gun culture fanatic loading his gun and shooting so that no one escapes alive.

(101 posts)The post you replied to said nothing of shooting someone when they are down, but instead was speaking of the type of ammunition used in the shotgun. Do you want people to use ineffective ammunition?

(754 posts)thus still representing a threat.
The guy with the shotgun should reconsider his ammunition choice and perhaps his aim (point); perhaps the thug would have gone down with one shot and not two. But proper aim/point would have been the mid-section of the torso, almost surely resulting in incapacitation, and probably death. All with one shot, not two.

(54,770 posts)The attempted robbery was over. No need to shoot him in the back.

(54,770 posts)Most of you guys have invested heavily in a cache of weapons, training on shooting people, buying the latest lethal accessory, NRA dues, etc. I guess it's all just a missed "opportunity" to many in the "gun culture" if you can't thump your chest and shout "I shot him at 25 yards, fleeing for his life" in the unlikely event you actually encounter a situation.

(15,396 posts)I suppose it's a good idea to help cover you in the eyes of the law but kinda unsafe. If the threat is serious enough to pull the trigger you should take it serious and not play with the perp using trinket rounds.
Beanbags and rubber bullet rounds are probably fine for keeping kids off your lawn so they do have a place in society.

(101 posts)I've been thinking about getting some Centurion 12 Ga. loads for my Mossberg, they make a "buck and ball" load with one .65" ball and 6 #1 buckshot pellets.
If it was good enough for the Founding Fathers...
