As a Native American who lives in Washington state I am deeply sadden, and know that anyone who loves these majestic creatures and what they represent as much as I do are just as saddened.
In the comment section it was suggested that:
"Not to mention it looks like someone might have done this to gain this sort of attention to make a point about guns and America. He/she shoots the nations symbol and leaves them. 4 of them... it just seems pretty symbolic, especially since we're all in the throes of a gun debate."
It makes me wonder if it really is some NRA (the government is out to get me) nut job! There are more Tea Party types here in WA State than I would like to think, and I wouldn't put it pass them.
There are also comments that it could be a liberal sheeple wanting to start something.

(33,982 posts)Ok, that was a joke, but this is pretty sickening. Short drive from my place. If the game wardens get ahold of this motherfucker...
I don't see how the 'tea party' would benefit. Logic suggests they would benefit on the gun issue by keeping a low goddamn profile for a long time, but logic hasn't kept Wayne LaPierre off the airwaves so far either... so. Who knows.
Whoever it is, it's an asshole.

(62,683 posts)And I agree -- more RW extremists (and just plain assholes) in WA than I'd like to admit, too.
This guy was just out and out an asshole.
I'd like to take HIS guns away just because he makes me so mad.
Other sane, nice people should be able to keep theirs.

(17,502 posts)just an asshole who should get the full force of federal law. I don't think it has anything to do with politics, just some asshole who wanted to kill something and the eagles were in the wrong place, wrong time.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bald_and_Golden_Eagle_Protection_Act#Criminal_penalty If I understand this correctly, it could be a felony.
pisses me off to no end.

(538 posts)under the Bald and Golden Eagle Protection Act, its is a felony and the maximum fine of $250,000 and up to two years in prison.

(2,708 posts)No we shouldn't make that link, rocky, even if it turns out to be true. The nra, despite it's sick minded upper management & self serving monetary motivated policies, would not endorse this type of behavior, & even if one of their own were to have done it, we can't just pin the tail on the donkey. If a liberal dem did some awful thing it would be wrong to paint democrats with a broad brush.
.. it's only a slim chance anyway, only about 5% of gunowners belong to the nra - tho including 'past members' would be a bit larger percentage.
.. the worst offender was timothy mcveigh, oklahoma bomber killed ~170 people, later executed. I think he was a former nra member when he did it. But people from good organizations do dastardly things daily, kill, rob, steal, and we just can't label members doing bad things as representing an org they belong to.
Now, boards of directors are different; the nra board includes whackjobs & sickos like ted nugent & wayno & used to have neil knox. These are fair game & tend to indeed be representative of the organization.

(594 posts)Federal offense that has no relationship to the NRA or legal gun ownership. Eagles are sacred to my people, and I hope they catch whoever is responsible and prosecute to the fullest extent the law allows.

(18,479 posts)There is no excuse or explanation for this type of activity. The only reasonable result from this is that someone does time in prison.
I don't believe it was an NRA/teaparty nut job nor do I believe that it was a liberal trying to frame the others. This IMHO is almost certainly some disturbed teen to young adult aged with either checked-out parent(s) or having a psychotic episode. He needs to be found because people may be next.

(5,455 posts)far more likely to be an asshole who deserves to be a convicted felon and spend a couple of years in jail PER eagle.
And a lien on any property AND a percentage of their paycheck until the $1 million dollar fine is paid off.
EVERY single gun owner I know would turn this person in to the police in a heartbeat.

(6,624 posts)I'd bet that there's more than one perpetrator, that they are male, and that they are under the age of 18.

(56,912 posts)that brings up a whole other issue, methinks.
interesting take ...
Straw Man
(6,624 posts)Because it has been my experience that adolescent males acting in concert are capable of all kinds of senseless random violence and destruction. I'm not sure why -- it might have something to with excess energy that no longer needs to be directed toward survival. I could blame video games, but the phenomenon is much older than that.

(49,445 posts)After an appeal by a member, and in light of the federal protection laws of the bald eagle, I've decided to unlock this thread as a "gun crime".
