Florida woman with concealed weapons permit brandishes gun at Walmart staff over rejected $1 coupon

By Arturo Garcia
Tuesday, March 5, 2013

Police arrested a 61-year-old Florida woman for allegedly pointing a gun at Walmart employees, threatening them after the store refused to honor her coupon for $1 off of a purchase and later attacking authorities.

The Smoking Gun reported on Monday that Mary Frances Alday was arrested on March 1 and charged with four counts of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and one count apiece of battery on a law enforcement officer and resisting arrest with violence stemming from a confrontation in which she allegedly took a Smith & Wesson .38 caliber gun out of her car and pointing it at the staff saying, “I have something for y’all.”

The Wakulla County Sheriff’s Department said in a release that the Crawfordsville, Florida resident “became verbally abusive” toward the store’s assistant manager, Tracy Stockslager, when Stockslager said the store’s policy prevented them from honoring the coupon.

When asked if she had a weapon in the vehicle, she allegedly told Sgt. Danny Harrell, “Yes, I have a concealed weapons permit, and you are not taking my gun.” She also refused to give up the weapon when asked where it was.

It's a good thing they only issue concealed weapons permits to law-abiding citizens who only want to exercise their 2nd Amendment rights.

Well, I guess you're law abiding until you're not.

so unless she resided elsewhere, no. Florida is shall issue state wide, which means the standards and criteria are standardized state wide. Granted Florida's training standard is a bit of a joke (IMHO) at least it has one which is more than you can say for New York. I'm not sure of any training standards in California, but some counties are defacto shall issue, IIRC Kern is one, while others are issue only to cronies and campaign contributors like LA and Orange. The main problem I have with may issue is that it gives a police official arbitrary discretion over a civil liberty, which has no place in an open and liberal society.

I think Florida's training needs to be more in depth, probably more like Texas. Why don't I think Florida should go the way of Vermont and Wyoming? because I took a CCW class full of former New Yorkers (Queens/Long Island south here) who couldn't find the cylinder latch (most thought it was the safety) on the house provided revolvers. Some redneck and I had to help the instructor had to show these guys how to load the thing. I got the distinct feeling that was the first time many of them held a real firearm since they got back from World War 2.

Thought so. My hunch is that this gun nut has a CCW whether from that county or another. Zimmerman also had a CCW when he decided to follow Trayvon Martin.

Trayvon's skin color was obviously a little too dark for comfort. Imagine if he spotted a white woman just going about her businesses. Would Zimmy have had the same reaction? Of course not. Walking while black clearly has its disadvantages. I guess African American teenagers just have to hope gun nuts like Zimmy aren't lurking with their hand guns, exercising the 2nd Amendment rights.

Zimmy was also on his way to Target. Who carries when they're shopping at Target?

Maybe a lot of folks actually.

What a country.

in the sense she know anything about them. Most likely she is in the same class as Zimmerman, who bought it and got the CCW after animal control told him that pepper spray would be not very effective against a pit bull and told him to get a gun instead. It has something to do with him being afraid of a loose pitbull in the neighborhood (as stupid as it sounds, if Seminole County AC is anything like Citrus County, I can picture it. Pits are rarely aggressive to humans and spray will chill a dog out) I think he is dim, but not a racist, at least according to the FBI. Zimmerman's skin tone is actually closer to Trayvon's than it is to mine.

Just because TSG said she was a CCW holder does not make it true that she either is or claimed to be. I always take anything the media claims with more than a grain of salt be it conservative, corporate MSM, or progressive.

Even with the few bad apples our record is still far better than the general population.

Texas publishes their statistics online. http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/rsd/chl/index.htm In 2011, out of 512,000+, citizens with CHLs (Concealed Handgun Liscense) there were only 9 convicted of "deadly conduct" vs 1,353 convictd from the general population of the same charge. For the charge of Aggrevated Assault With A Deadly Weapon it was 3 CHLers convicted versud 2,765 convicted from the general population.

We who have CCWs are an extremely safe, law-abiding group with very few bad apples.

Surely if she was a "Typical Toter" we would see a LARGE number of such incidents every month.

Even though concealed carry is very common in Florida, the state is not the Wild West with shootouts at every intersection and on Main Street at high noon. In fact the crime rate is at a 41 year low. http://www.fdle.state.fl.us/Content/News/April-2012/FDLE-announces-lowest-crime-rate-in-41-years.aspx

So much for arguments against the permit that doesn't exist.
