And although I'm opposed to bans on assault weapons and/or high capacity magazines it's hard for me to see why stricter background checks would cost them any significant amount of votes.

When none of these over reaching gun control wet dreams get passed.

Or ... if we lose seats in the mid terms over gun control issues, (even if we all manage to withhold the "I told you so" responses) that will all be our fault for being disloyal too.

(Never mind what that Clinton guy said about gun control and its impact in '94, what the hell does he know about politics anyway!)

The local self-anointed Zampolits will collectively rise from their designated echo box to deride us in GD and LBN, since they finally got their ass kicked out of Meta.

It seemed to be a "crying and whining room" for anyone unhappy with a jury result or where someone got their ass handed to them in a debate in another forum. Then the self appointed witch and troll hunter took it over and I guess Skinner, Earl G and their admin team got fed up with all the unproductive whining and complaints.

But as a guilty pleasure I used to scan it to watch some of the same disruptors that came to the Gungeon self destruct trying to use the same "purity techniques" and aggressive witch hunting behavior in the LGBT, HoF and other forums.

Kind of like watching a car, train, airplane and tractor trailer wreck .... all at the same time.

Now some of the remnants are in the new group trying to choose a head witch hunter. They seem far more focused on quickly banning anyone that has ever disagreed with any of them or made them look foolish (e.g. NRA Talking Points), than anything even vaguely approaching "activism". These are the same folks that ranted for weeks when Hoyt got banned from RKBA.

Their new motto should probably be "Purity before Activism or Victory".

I'm pretty sure in Latin that would be a great bumper sticker or tattoo for some of them.

Too bad we can't go down there and post it.

They have already started kicking people out they don't like or that have failed whatever the gun control purity test is this week.

I wonder of our own host should reciprocate? I get a little sick of the daily Google Dump of cut and paste w/o comment or discussion - "Guns r bad, OK, hmmm?"

out of the 234,000,000 potential voters, it should be obvious that there is a potential of having a serous backlash if our party pushes too hard for strong gun control.

It will be sad if we end up shooting ourselves in the foot as our party could easily suggest reasonable gun control legislation that would be supported by many gun owners.

While it is true that gun violence is an important issue in our nation it is far from the only important issue. In order to achieve much needed change in many areas we need to elect more Democrats to office at all levels of government.

Especially not when it comes to passing emotion- and media hysteria-driven crap that does nothing practical when it comes to saving lives or reducing crime. Doing things that put Republicans back in office kill more people than a mass shooter could ever dream of.

is more important than single payer health care (our current corporate system probably kills more people than some nut with a gun), living wage, Wall Street regulation, the environment, fixing infrastructure, trade, public libraries, public schools, etc.

Were you trying to hit the target? Well you did.

How do we stop the "nut with a gun"?

That's what everybody wants, right? Even the right, right?

So how do we do that?

And don't give me the bullshit that it isn't important.

While the circumstances are different (largely in terms of the time until the next election), there remains a distinct possibility that a repeat of 1994's election massacre could be in part fueled by Democratic support of some of the more ambitious gun control proposals. Given that none of the proposals being considered can be expected to make much of a difference to the rate of gun-related violence (and yes, that IS a given...), it's just not worth risking the loss of the Senate and burying ourselves further in the House.

Juror #1 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: You anti-gun nutters got your protected haven where you are protected from reason. Can't you just stay there and leave rest of us out of your childish fight with the pro-gun nutters?
Juror #2 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #3 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: Seems an appropriate discussion topic for this forum.
Juror #4 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: No explanation given
Juror #5 voted to LEAVE IT ALONE and said: It's the OP's opinion and last I checked those were still allowed here, whether we agree with them or not.

My thanks to the six jurors that wouldn't put up with the crude attempt at limiting discussion.
