Latin King leader wants to conceal and carry

Cook County Sheriff’s officials say they’ve filed an objection to a gang leader’s state application to carry a concealed firearm — and they’re opposing hundreds of other applications, too.

The high-ranking Latin Kings leader possesses a state firearm owner’s identification card, which allows him to own a gun. He got the card because he doesn’t have any felonies on his record, said authorities, who declined to name him.

Under the state’s concealed carry law that took effect this year, an individual must first have a firearm owner’s identification card to apply for a permit. Once an application is filed, local law enforcement agencies have 30 days to file objections with a state licensing board.

So far, sheriff’s officials have filed objections to about 180 applications and plan to object to about 180 more, said Cara Smith, executive director of the Cook County Correctional Center.

Posted without opinion (or reason) with intent to support removal of a citizen's preexisting rights through bureaucratic decree rather than established law.

Depriving citizens of their rights based upon the opinion of a person in authority is a bad precedent to set.

I don't usually comment on gun threads, but after reading your constant anti gun comments led me to comment, which I'm now regretting, my favorite group is pets, I think I'll just go back there where it's much more tame.
Toodles.

I support the Democratic Party platform on guns.

Right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation
We recognize that the individual right to bear arms is an important part of the American tradition, and we will preserve Americans' Second Amendment right to own and use firearms. We believe that the right to own firearms is subject to reasonable regulation. We understand the terrible consequences of gun violence; it serves as a reminder that life is fragile, and our time here is limited and precious. We believe in an honest, open national conversation about firearms. We can focus on effective enforcement of existing laws, especially strengthening our background check system, and we can work together to enact commonsense improvements--like reinstating the assault weapons ban and closing the gun show loophole--so that guns do not fall into the hands of those irresponsible, law-breaking few.

but I don't support a ban on so called "assault weapons nor mag limits" those are just feel good laws that will do nothing to reduce the criminal use of guns in the country.
And now that I've answered you, and you've been respectful in your comments to me, I'll mosey on back to the pets group.

Reminds me of a four decade old story of an NYC mobster who bragged that he had an NYC CCW.

The gang leader’s criminal background includes 12 arrests but no convictions, authorities said. The arrests include such charges as aggravated assault, burglary and failure to register a firearm. The sheriff’s office would not reveal the man’s name, age or where he lives, citing privacy concerns.
unnamed police sources and unknown gangster. How do you get arrested 12 times and not be convicted of anything?

Another applicant was arrested 20 times over nine years for crimes that included resisting a peace officer and domestic battery. The man was found guilty of two misdemeanors, but such convictions don’t prevent someone from obtaining a firearm owner’s identification card.
What were the misdemeanors? Was one of them domestic battery? If so, why does he have a FOID?

12. Cook County Sheriff Tom Dart is a publicity sucking weasel
Sat Feb 1, 2014, 08:21 PM
Feb 2014

Dart has been whining to any dumb ass media outlet that will listen since he didn't get the "May Issue" he desparately wanted so he could suck contributions from applicants like they do in NYC and LA.

Here's the part of the law that's relevant, not that some people give a shit about facts. But his arrest record is grounds for filing an objection.

"If an applicant has 5 or more arrests for any reason,
that have been entered into the Criminal History Records
Information (CHRI) System, within the 7 years preceding the
date of application for a license, or has 3 or more arrests
within the 7 years preceding the date of application for a
license for any combination of gang-related offenses, the
Department shall object and submit the applicant's arrest
record, the application materials, and any additional
information submitted by a law enforcement agency to the Board"

The most recent report Friday from the Illinois State Police said the entire state has had a total of 261 objections out of over 40,000 applications so far. The objections now go to the review board for a decision.

Hard to imagine that with a little effort they can't hang a felony conviction on a known gang leader.
