RICHLAND, WA - A Richland medical marijuana patient recently applied for a Concealed Pistol License, but was denied by police.
Medical marijuana is legal under Washington state law, but the federal government won't make an exception for that when it comes to getting a Concealed Pistol License.
Richland police sent the medical marijuana patient a letter stating that federal law prohibits anyone who uses a controlled substance from "shipping, transporting, receiving or possessing firearms or ammunition."

(19,497 posts)Gender rights, LGBT rights, social justice, etc. are all predicated on the ideal that people are oppressed, that those with power exploit that power and other people. Progressives pick up the banner to speak for those who would otherwise be deprived of a voice as well as lending our collective strength to one another.
What is the value of declaring, "My body, my choice" and decrying rape culture but then insisting we remain defenseless if confronted by a rapist? Yes, President Eisenhower deployed troops to enforce desegregation but what if such a person had not been in office at that time? What if Arizona passes its hate law and the homophobes take that to mean it's open seasons on gays?
Who do we turn to? Answer: Ourselves. We are our first, best defenders. We have to be.
And I have grown extremely distrustful of the pro-control side -- though I once considered myself one of them. People who have to obfuscate, shift arguments, refuse to answer questions, evade definitions are not to be trusted. As far as I'm concerned even their stated intentions of doing good for others are to be viewed with a suspicious eye.
At the expense of sounding immodest, I think that makes me fairly progressive.
